Want a photo of yourself in a bobsled? The line was short for a turn to hop in one right across the pavilion. If you posted your picture, you’d star in an ad for Omega, the offi cial timekeeper of the Olympics. The logo was stamped on the side of the sled and on the wall behind it. Inside a building down the way, acrobats suspended from the ceiling spun around on hoops during a laser light show. This was a building-sized tra- peze ad for the Korean Electric Power Corporation, and wowed spectators inside happily held up their phones to snap photos and send them out into social media. Outside the Hyundai building, a massive art exhibi- tion painted the darkest shade of black on earth, black-coated workers checked visitors’ phones. If the hashtag was exactly right, the reward was a pin: Soohorang, the Olympic mascot, dancing next to the Hyundai corporate logo. Zabek, a 27-year-old New Yorker, is the ideal candidate for this brand of modern mar- keting. He proudly declares himself a millennial, and he often speaks in internet acro- nyms. To describe why he left the Olympics two weeks ago, only to decide at the spur of the moment to fl y all the way back around the world for one day at the closing ceremony, he said this: “I had FOMO.” Transla- tion for non-millennials: fear of missing out. “I love the Olympics that much,” he said. samoa news, Monday, February 26, 2018 Page B7 Rockets beat Nuggets 119- NC State rolls past 114 for 12th straight win. [photo: FS] AP source: Twins agree to $6.5M contract with Logan Morrison

By DAVE CAMPBELL, AP Sports Writer The Minnesota Twins are adding some pop to their playoff team from last year, landing free agent slugger Logan Morrison for the lineup. Morrison and the Twins have agreed to a $6.5 million, one- year contract, according to a person with knowledge of the deal. The person spoke to The on condition of ano- nymity Sunday because the agreement was subject to a physical and had not been finalized. The Twins would have an option for 2019 that could vest auto- matically, making it a two-year deal. Either way, their patience in a slow-moving market this winter has the Twins on the cusp of scoring Morrison, who’s coming off a career-high 38 home runs and 85 RBIs for the Tampa Bay Rays in 2017. Morrison was drafted by the Marlins and debuted in 2010. He was traded to Seattle prior to the 2014 season, then dealt to the Rays two years later. Morrison played in a career-most 149 games last season and posted an .868 OPS, which would have been tops on the Twins. C M He broke in as a corner outfielder but became a regular at first Y K base in 2013, his last year with the Marlins. With Eddie Rosario in left field, Max Kepler in right and Joe Mauer at first base for the Twins, Morrison is on track to be the primary designated hitter for a team that earned an AL wild card last season. Robbie Grossman and Kennys Vargas are the Min- nesota holdovers who saw the most time at DH in 2017, but their production didn’t match what Morrison did for the Rays. “Everybody knows he can hit, so we’re excited to have any- body like that with that kind of power in the lineup, for sure,” Twins pitcher Kyle Gibson said after his exhibition start against the Rays in Fort Myers, Florida. “That’s only going to make us a deeper team and a better team.” The Twins have quietly added several veterans to an up-and- coming club, beginning with relievers Fernando Rodney, Addison Reed and Zach Duke. They traded for starting pitcher Jake Odor- izzi and signed another candidate for the rotation in Anibal San- chez before reaching the agreement with Morrison. The Twins pre-emptively cleared a spot on the 40-man roster by placing reliever J.T. Chargois on waivers. Chargois, who pitched in 25 games for Minnesota in 2016, was claimed by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday. samoa news, Monday, February 26, 2018 Page B9 LeLeLaliLali Fa’aauau tufatufaina fesoasoani mo aiga na Vaaiga i totonu o faleie mai le FEMA mo aiga ua fa’aleagaina fale e le ‘afa o Gita. WORK LEAVES SINGLE MOM WITH LITTLE TIME FOR SON DEAR ABBY: I’m 29. I had a son six years ago and left my ex because he didn’t want to be a father. He chose to party instead. I had to fi le a name change for my son, and custody was hard to fi ght for because the father refused to show up. Since then, I’ve worked two and sometimes three jobs just to stay ahead. My child hardly sees me. I work so much that my son has stopped calling me “Mommy” and instead calls me by my name. I feel hopeless and that I’m working for nothing. Have I made a mistake working so much? -- MOMMY IN MARYLAND DEAR MOMMY: If you are working those long hours in order to pay your bills, you are doing what a parent is supposed to do -- providing for your child. Because your ex isn’t doing his share, get on the internet and research “child support for single mothers.” Resources are available to help you. As to your son no longer calling you “Mommy,” I would have to ask where he got the idea he would call you anything else. (Have you asked him?) Rather than accept it, make clear that he has only one mommy, you are it, and you will not tolerate being called anything else. DEAR ABBY: I’ve been seeing someone for six or seven months, but we have been together for only three. He’s quite the package, except he can’t handle confrontation and doesn’t communicate well. His way of handling uncomfortable conversations is to avoid them, while I, on the other hand, tend to be very communicative. Is there a way for both of us to be happy when dealing with diffi cult conversations? Is there anything I can do to make him more comfortable with them? I should add that he hasn’t been in a relationship in forever. I’m happy with him, but communication is important to me. -- VERBAL IN THE WEST DEAR VERBAL: Has it occurred to you that this man may not have been in a relationship “in for- ever” BECAUSE he can’t deal with uncomfortable conversations? For many women, that would be a deal-breaker. While not all men are comfortable with long, heartfelt conversations, the only way to arrive at a compromise is to talk with each other. Give him more time because your relationship is still new. But if he isn’t capable of opening up, recognize it as an important red fl ag if you are contem- plating a long relationship with him. DEAR ABBY: My son’s best friend’s bike was stolen from our front yard, and I feel terrible about it. Up to this point, he had been careful to put it in our garage or by our front door when he came over. It was new, and I want to offer to help pay for a new one if we don’t fi nd it. My husband disagrees. I know the child’s parents don’t expect it, but I feel it’s the right thing to do. -- FEELING GUILTY IN TEXAS DEAR FEELING GUILTY: While it would be generous to offer to help pay for the bike, you should not feel obligated or guilty because you did nothing wrong. One can only hope the boy has learned an important lesson from what happened. In the future, he will make sure his bike is safely parked inside your garage and not out where a thief can snatch it. ** ** ** samoa news, Monday, February 26, 2018 Page B15 Page B16 samoa news, Monday, February 26, 2018
