STRENGTH VS. STRENGTH: Since the beginning of the 2018 season, when head coach Mike Vrabel and defensive coordinator Dean Pees began their tenures in Tennessee, the Titans have fielded one of the top passing defenses in the NFL. This Sunday they will be put to the test against a Falcons team that ranks equally high in passing offense.

In 19 total games from 2018 through the present, the Titans defense is allowing an average of 212.6 net passing yards. That is the fourth-best number in the NFL behind only the Buffalo Bills (184.4), (200.9) and Jacksonville Jaguars (204.1).

Meanwhile, Matt Ryan, wide receiver Julio Jones and the rest of Falcons offense is averaging 291.5 passing yards in the same time period. The only offenses with greater passing output are that of the (322.7), (307.5) and (296.0).

MARCUS MARIOTA’S SUCCESS VS. THE NFC: Marcus Mariota leads the Titans into Sunday’s meeting with the Falcons on a four-game winning streak against NFC Opponents. Mariota and the Titans defeated all four NFC East opponents they faced in 2018.

During his five-year career, Mariota has fared well in interconference matchups. In 15 games against the NFC, he has completed 295 of 441 passes for 3,477 yards, 26 and seven . His total in those contests is 103.7, and it has exceeded 100 in nine of the 15 outings.

Among all NFL since 2015 with a minimum of 12 interconference games, Mariota owns the fourth-best passer rating in those games, and he has the second-best passer rating by AFC signal callers versus NFC foes. He trails only Seattle’s (117.1), Pittsburgh’s (105.8) and New Orleans’ (105.5).

Mariota’s career win-loss record is 10-5 against NFC clubs.

With 499 career NFL receptions, he needs only one more catch to become the 16th tight end in NFL history to reach 500.

Walker spent the first seven years of his career with the San Francisco 49ers, hauling in 123 passes. He joined the Titans in 2013 and since that time has a team-best 376 receptions.

Walker is set join (1,162), Greg Olsen (682), Jimmy Graham (614), Vernon Davis (582) and Ben Watson (530) as the only active NFL tight ends to reach 500 career receptions.

WAKE SCHEDULED TO APPEAR IN 150TH GAME: This week Titans outside is expected to play in the 150th game of his career. He first appeared in an NFL game with the in 2009 after spending time in the Canadian Football League.

Through his initial 149 games, Wake’s career statistics include 100.5 sacks, 352 tackles, 215 quarterback pressures, 97 tackles for loss, 22 forced , two recoveries and one . He eclipsed the 100-sack mark with 2.5 sacks in the season opener at Cleveland on Sept. 8.

Since individual sacks became an official NFL statistic in 1982, only 13 other NFL players have had 100 sacks through their first 150 games. One sack this week would put Wake in a tie with Jason Taylor (101.5) for the 12th-highest sack total through 150 games, and two sacks would allow him to match ’s total (102.5) for 11th place on the list.
