Morgan to Fowles It was a beautiful clear day so we took the 4/4 to Fowles Restaurant for a birthday lunch. My birthday, not the Morgan’s.

The owners have recently created an extension for a larger restaurant area. Very new, very flash. The food is still delicious with lunch offering several platters on the menu.

The old restaurant area is being renovated to allow more space for wine tasting. It will also include a niche marketing outlet for local products.

The garden and surrounds is also having a make-over. Lots of dust but with the rain there will be terraces and arbours to enhance the views of the Strathbogie Ranges.

Fowles is at Avenel, just over a hours drive from Melbourne. It would make an ideal venue for a Thursday RDO.

Since the last Gazette, Brian and I have had a busy three months entertaining overseas visitors. Sadly we had been unable to attend any RDOs with VICMOG. Luckily other members have sent in photos and reports to fill the screen.

The Gazette relies on your contributions. We met up at the Little River BP Servo in perfect Morganing weather and soon nine Morgans and one tin box (you just have to find your side curtains Ron) were on our way down the Geelong Highway to pick up the Geelong bypass. the Lighthouse. All their members were resplendent in identical grey and maroon Lycra tops. As I was walking back I heard one of our members say to them “On your way out, have a look and see what a real sports car looks like”.

Finally we made it to our resting place for the night at the Apollo Bay Apartments. This is a great ven- ue with undercover Morgan park- ing and comfortable rooms. We gathered around 5:30 pm the Great Ocean Road Brewhouse for drinks and much hilarity. We will make no mention here of the President’s wardrobe malfunction so don’t ask him about it. We had an amazing dinner at La Bimba. Just when you thought you had finished the meal another platter of beautifully cooked food would show up. Thursday morning we were on the road again heading to Port Camp- bell with our first stop of the day at More stops along the way to admire the beautiful coastal scenery the Cape Otway Lighthouse: very Then lunch at the rather quirky Otway NouriShed at the little hamlet of interesting place. Here we said goodbye to Alan and Sam and the beautiful Super Sports Aero. Our group’s tone and level and star power had all just taken a big hit. THE THREE DAY GREAT OCEAN ROAD LUNCH RUN

The afternoon saw us visit the Twelve Apostles – well the eight of them that are left anyway. The crowds here were unbelievable but the views are still magnificent. Then on to Loch Ard Gorge and finally to our overnight accommodation in Port Campbell at the Best Western Great Ocean Road Inn. Now, the group having split up into ones and twos by this time we strag- gled in and owing to less than clear signage, at least six Morgans went to the wrong motel. The owners there, however, were very kind and pointed the way to our correct destination. We noted in the course of the trip that Michael and Alison’s Morgan had got progressively cleaner while everyone else’s had got much dirtier. Dinner this night was at Forage On The Foreshore which is a lovely ven- ue serving great food. We awoke Friday to grey overcast skies and light passing showers. Our beautiful weather of the last two days was deserting us. We were on the road around 9:30 heading towards Colac. The early portion of this road was a bit suss and I, like a few others, gave my chassis a couple of loud wacks as it contacted the bitumen at high speed. Still we all made it into Colac and Geoff and Nancy had found a great coffee venue in the botanical gar- dens on the edge of the lake. Bill and Kate , Michael and Alison, and Jeanette and I headed straight home from here in an attempt to escape the worst of the afternoon peak traffic. The remainder of the group headed on to lunch at Ravens Creek Farm at Moriac. Having been Social Secretary, I know how much work is demanded in this role but Geoff takes the detailed planning and execution of these trips to a whole new level. I am sure the whole group will join with me in expressing our grateful thanks to Geoff and Nancy for a truly fabulous three days. I would like to get an ear- ly booking in for the 2020 Four Day Great Ocean Road RDO Lunch Run. Brian Hardy Secretary VICMOG Diary No 3 Crittenden Winery RDO Dromana May 2

It was a typical autumn forecast for We were all pleasantly saited after what the future held for our franking Melbourne. good food and good conversation credits. and we all headed home wondering Rain, sun, cloud, cold, slightly Ted Houston warmer, antarctic freeze, and that’s all before noon. Comms Officer It was an intrepid group of Mor- ganeers who met at the beach Cafe Seaford on the 2nd May. There were no photos taken as it was too cold and wet (and I had forgotten). A small number drove in their tin- tops, who were met with grudging admiration and jealousy by some at this point. After a warm cup of coffee, we saddled up and took the pleasant beach drive to Arthurs Seat, where we rested. It had stopped raining so the risk takers removed their roofs. A refreshingly brisk drive then took us through the beautiful Peninsula back roads to Crittendens Winery. There we met up with Michael Aisenberg with his outstanding blue 3 wheeler. If you get to see the photos that Michael has of its original condition, you will be gob- smacked. A very enjoyable lunch was en- sued by 14 happy Vicmogers, and there were brief glimpses of sun as the temperature nudged double figures. VICMOG Diary No4 RACV Benalla Tour May 17

Perfect day for classic car touring. We assembled at the Benalla gliding club. Great with the parking space, Lots of work needed on the queueing for 150 cars to exit through three gates. We were eventually heading for Glenrowan, of Ned Kelly fame. Attractive old pub, too early for a drink but it was warm enough. Glenrowan Driving towards Greta we passed Lizio’s Prickly Pear orchard. Can’t be too many of those. Greta is where Ned Kelly’s remains were buried in the cemetery in 2013.

Tatong

A delicious morning tea was enjoyed at the Greta Hall. As we wound our way through pretty farming country, an empty timber jinker madly overtook us and raced up the hill. With no visability to uncoming traffic we all moved into the dirt.

Stopped at Tatong pub to look at the heritage garden murals. then another half an hour and we arrived at Moorngag Hall for a country style Moorngag lunch. Local produce stalls were set out for our us to browse through.

Some 90 minutes later we were off again, next stop Swanpool’s delighful boutique cinema. We were treated to a screening of nostalgic motoring film reels. Lots of fun to watch before driving back to the Benalla gardens for the awards.

Editor VICMOG Diary No5 HISTORIC WINTON May 18-19

Historic Winton was a week earlier this year and the weather was magnificent. We needed hats and sunglasses! The Austin 7 club, who organise this annual event, decided to feature the 110th anniversary of the 3 Wheeler Morgans. Mike Devine, Michael Ainsberg, Paul Anderson, Christine Stevens, Gary Neilsen, and Wayne Fisher answered the call. Mike and Brian Garrett decided to include Brian’s 1949 Series 1 (Flat- rad) as an excellent example of the first of the 4 wheelers. It was displayed alongside Paul Anderson’s car as the radiators are very similar..

We had loaded the Flat-rad onto the trailer several days prior to the event and therefore were able to leave early Saturday morning, arriving at WInton raceway before 8am. Brian unloaded and drove into the pavillion with warnings to spectators to watch out as the brakes were still a bit iffy. The Austin 7 official, who was most helpful, supplied plastic undersheets for the oil drips. These were placed under all exhibits, including the Bugattis whose radiators had a tendency to boil and flood the carpets.

We were housed in the Corporate Pavillion which was situated at the far end of the competitors sheds. At least a kilometre from the grandstand and the general public, who were unaware of our existence. But, it was undercover and lockable so ideal for leaving the 3 Wheelers overnight. Also we had a great view of the track.

Inside the pavillion we caught up with Christine and Greg Stevens who had driven down from Queensland towing both their 3 Wheeler and their 4/4 on a large trailer. We had first met them at the Morgan Muster at Gympie in May 31- June 2, 2013. HISTORIC WINTON May 18-19

VICMOG Diary No4

We chatted to the 3 Wheeler owners, taking the chance for photos and info. Paul had recently installed an electric pump into his engine and others were keen to inspect the result. Wayne Fisher and his friend Emily had slept in a tent overnight and didn’t seem to get much sleep. Not sure if it was the cold or the noise from the kangaroos that abound. (No pun intended).

After getting the car in place, Brian and I wandered up the hill to meet up with Pete and Heather ffrench, who had placed their chairs in a perfect spot near the first bend where most of the action was happening on the track

Saturday night we met up with Mike and Dot Devine and Paul for dinner at the Seven Creeks Hotel in Euroa. We enjoyed a great meal washed down with excellent local red wine. Of course the accommodation was within walking distance.

Sunday saw us back at the track getting prepared for the display parade. Only Mike, Paul and Sue Neilsen drove in the display. Sue, in the yellow and red 3 Wheeler, is remembered for racing with her father for many years. She had been the side-car passenger who moved when cornering to help keep the vehicle from flipping over.

Michael and Lil Ainsberg, Dot, Brian and I went over trackside to watch the parade and take pics. Michael climbed onto the fence to gain height over-looking the start. HISTORIC WINTON May 18-19

After taking our photos and whilst the parade continued, the rest of the Morgan owners took the opportunity to take our cars out of the pavillion and load them onto their trailers.

Those in the parade simply drove their cars from the track to where the trailers were parked for loading. Paul’s 3 wheeler has a tendency to boil and because the parade was going at the speed of the oldest, slowest car, he didnt want it to flood the pavillion carpet if he took it back inside after the parade.

The top photo shows the Morgans on parade, but the pic under it is a rogue shot of Michael Byrne in his lotus super 8. He had won the S A-B-C races on Saturday and Sunday.

We took the time to wander around and look at the historic classic cars exhibited in the general public area. Brian thought the Vauxhalls were the hansomest of the displays.

We finally arrived home latish Sunday afternoon. As you can see from the photos the weather was perfect contributing to once again a very enjoyable Morgan get-together.

Kerry Garrett Editor VICMOG Diary No 6 Redsdale RDO 30th May

May 30 appeared with blue skies but it was freezing. Definitely not a top down day. But seven of us decided to take a risk and drive the Morgan. Three people came in their tin tops.

Brian and I just drove the 90 minutes straight to Redesdale from Violet Town, stopping for coffee at Nagambie at the new Information, boutique brewery. Good coffee, too early for beer. The other seven hardies met up at Calder Park and proceeded to drive to the top of the range at Mt Macedon for their coffee. It was reported to reach three degrees Celsius at Mt Macedon.

Geoff took them along the scenic route via Hanging Rock to enjoy the magnificent landscape and views. They didnt say if they got out of their cars to admire the view, or to take photos. But no photos have been forthcoming.

They drove down to Redesdale through Lancefield via the Burke and Wills track. All were very positive about the drive and admired the Redesdale bridge landmark.

We were welcomed with a blazing wood fire inside a very comfortable country pub. The food was as great as last time we were had eaten here.

It rained on our way home.

If you anticipate any Parts requirements during the time that we are away, please let us know by Monday morning, which is our weekly Parts order day. We will still be able to support Parts supply whilst we are away, but there may be delays. As you may be aware, the new WLTP emissions standard is causing major issues for European manufacturers, the cost implications being much worse for a small volume manufac- tures such as Morgan. We are pres- ently trying to find a cost effective pathway around the new regula- tions, which are not recognised by the Australian Design Rules (ADRs). But for now, we are reliant on the small remaining supply of the ‘old’ ADR compliant engines. Presently, I have the following Production Slots left for 2019, with supply in 2020 uncertain. · Morgan Roadster 1 slot · Morgan Plus 4 2 slots · Morgan 4/4 1 slot · Morgan 3 Wheeler- no limitation

Should Members have an interest to place an order for a new Morgan for delivery this year, please ask them to contact me well before our departure date. A $20 000 First De- posit will secure a Production Slot. Presently we also have near new low kilometre 3 Wheeler and 4/4 dem- onstrators in stock, plus a new 4/4 and a Plus 4 for immediate delivery. Please contact me for more infor- mation. Kind regards, Chris van Wyk
