CJ November 2014.indd 18 23/10/2014 16:48 New record at Wetherby

ookings for this year’s charity raceday at Wetherby are poised to break last year’s record. BAs Club Journal went to press with a day remaining for bookings 1,559 CIU Racing Club members had taken advantage of the offer from Wetherby — less than 40 short of last year’s total of 1,597. Leading the way again was Mick Backhouse from Farsley WMC in Leeds, which is again bringing 257 members, exactly the same as last year. The course were so impressed with them last year that a group of women members were invited to choose the best turned out horse and present a cash prize to its trainer Donald McCain. Once again the day is made possible by the support of Dransfields, the Union’s recommended suppliers of gaming machines and quiz machines, who are sponsoring a race; and by John Smith’s who are providing five 50p-off beer tokens with every badge. The racecourse and their caterers CGC Events are each donating a £1 to the Union’s Education Fund meaning that this year’s raceday will again make more than £3,000. A future champion?
