After more than twenty years of living in the United States, I still carry my Dutch passport. It still feels premature for me to give it up and become an American. When people ask, “Where are you from?” I answer, “Denton, Texas.” This usually triggers, “OK, but where are you FROM???” It is the accent that apparently documents my otherness. -

The chromosomes at resting stage were classified as the diffuse type, while those at mitotic prophase were classified as the continuous type. The chromosome number was 2n = 36 reported here for the first time. The 36 chromosome sets at mitotic metaphase showed gradual decrease in size from the longest to the shortest chromosomes and they showed symmetric karyotype due to arm ratio with 34m+2sm. Thus, the 18 pairs of chromosomes classified were comprised from two similar chromosomes and thus, it was concluded as a diploid. KEYWORDS: Asparagaceae, Chromosomes, Karyomorphological study, Ledebouria crispa Ledebouria Roth is a genus distributed in India, Somatic chromosomes were observed in growing root tips Madagascar, and sub-Saharan Africa, mainly southern by the aceto-orcein squash method as in Hamatani et al. Africa (Manning et al. 2002). This genus is concluded in (1998). Root tips were harvested and pretreated in 2 mM the family of Asparagaceae, and the species of the genus 8-hydroxyquinoline at 20℃ for 2 hrs. before they were show deciduous or weakly evergreen perennials and have fixed in the 3 : 1 ethanol and Acetic acid at ca 10℃ for 10 bulbs. Fifty-three accepted species were reported as this min and stored at below freezing temperature for a few genus (The Plant List 2013). -

Recent research is described and areas of future work are discussed. INTRODUCTION In this article, the literature for the past twelve or so years is recorded on the anatomy of Liliaceae, AmarylIidaceae and Iridaceae and the smaller, related families, Alliaceae, Haemodoraceae, Hypoxidaceae, Ruscaceae, Smilacaceae and Trilliaceae. Subjects covered range from embryology, vegetative and floral anatomy to seed anatomy. A format is used in which references are arranged alphabetically, numbered and annotated, so that the reader can rapidly obtain an idea of the range and contents of papers on subjects of particular interest to him. The main research trends have been identified, classified, and check lists compiled for the major headings. Current systematic anatomy on the 'Anatomy of the Monocotyledons' series is reported. Comment is made on areas of research which might prove to be of future significance. -

CHARACTER VARIATION AND A CLADISTIC ANALYSIS OF THE GENUS Lachenalia Jacq:f. ex Murray (Hyacinthaceae:Massonieae) by GRAHAM D. DUNCAN Submitted in fulfilment ofthe academic requirements for the degree of Master of Science in the Discipline ofBotany, School ofBotany and Zoology University ofKwaZulu-Natal Pietermaritzburg 2005 11 Lachenalia bulbifera (Cirillo) Engl. from Pierre-Joseph Redoute's Les Liliacees, Volume 1, Plate 52 (1802). 11l ABSTRACT Morphological variation and a cladistic analysis ofthe large, endemic southemAfrican genus Lachenalia Jacqj ex Murray (Hyacinthaceae: Massonieae) is presented. Its close taxonomic relationship with the small endemic sympatric genus Polyxena Kunth (which has been included in the morphological and cladistic study) is discussed. The inclusion ofPolyxena within Lachenalia is supported. One hundred and twenty species (139 taxa), comprising 115 Lachenalia and five Polyxena species are recognised. A wide range of morphological characters were analysed, including macromorphology, micromorphology, anatomy and palynology. A discussion and comparison of karyological data is also presented. A brief historical background, speCIes diversity maps, figures, tables, appendices and illustrations of anatomical, micromorphological and macromorphological characters, and cladistic data, are presented, as well as discussions ofpollination biology and phytogeography. This work is based on species studied in their natural habitats as well as under cultivation, and from representative herbarium specimens examined from BOL, NBG, PRE and SAM. IV PREFACE The experimental work described in this dissertation was carried out in the School ofBotany and Zoology, University ofKwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg, and at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, Cape Town, from January 1998 to November 2004, under the supervision ofProfessor Trevor Edwards. These studies represent original work by the author and have not otherwise been submitted in any form for any degree or diploma to any University. -

Authors: Heather McClure-Coleman & Robin Reents Elements of Art/Principles of Design Space: an element of visual arts; the area above, below, around, and within an artwork; the illusion of depth or space on a flat surface, created by means of the following techniques: rendering shapes and forms so that they overlap and using size, detail, value, color, and linear perspective. Vocabulary Words Background: the area of a picture that appears to be farthest from the viewer. The background usually appears in the upper portion of the picture. Depth: the distance from the front to the back or the distance from near to the far part of a painting. Foreground: the area of a picture that appears closest to the viewer. The foreground begins at the bottom of a picture. Horizon Line: based on an artist’s eye level, an invisible plane that cuts through everything that exists at eye level; a line at which sky appears to meet earth. Middle Ground: the area in a picture that is between the foreground and the background. Perspective: a way to create the appearance of depth and three dimensions on a two-dimensional surface using vanishing points, horizon lines, converging lines or shading; types of perspective include one-point linear perspective (as illustrated in this lesson), two-point linear perspective, and atmospheric perspective. - One Point Perspective: a straight-on view with only one vanishing point. -

(2018): Flower morphology and vascular anatomy in some representatives of Urgineoideae (Hyacinthaceae). – Thaiszia – J. Bot. 28 (2): 125-143. – ISSN 1210-0420. Abstract: The flower morphology and vascular anatomy in Bowiea volubilis, Geschollia anomala and Fusifilum physodes have been studied. It was shown that the perigonium and androecium in the studied species are very similar. Each of tepals, and each stamen is supplied by a single vascular bundle. Some significant differences are recognized in the inner structure of the ovary, vertical zonality of septal nectary, as well as gynoecium venation in the studied species. Accordingly to W. Leinfellner concept of the gynoecium vertical zonality, it was established that the gynoecium of B. volubilis consists of hemisynascidiate, hemisymplicate and asymplicate zones, and the gynoecium of G. anomala and F. physodes consists of synascidiate, symplicate, hemisymplicate and asymplicate zones. The septal nectary of all studied species have a nectary cavity and nectary split which opens to the exterior. In the septal nectary we detected three vertical zones: the zone of the distinct nectary at the symplicate zone in F. physodes; the zone of the common nectary at the hemisynascidiate, and hemisymplicate zones in B. volubilis, and at the hemisymplicate zone in G. anomala and F. physodes; the zone of the external nectary (nectary splits) in all studied species at the asymplicate zone in the ovary roof.
