TAILWATER LODGE PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

In 2013, there was significant investment from existing businesses that expanded their operations, as well as from new firms that located throughout the county. In fact, Operation Oswego County helped to provide business and financial assistance for projects that, when fully implemented, will invest more than $263 million in Oswego County, and will create and/or retain more than 900 jobs. A variety of new businesses were established in the county representing a variety of industrial sectors. Among these are K&N’s Foods USA in the City of Fulton, Tailwater Lodge in the Town of Albion, Murphy’s Automotive Solutions in the Town of Oswego and Mother Earth Baby the City of Oswego. Several existing businesses made sizeable investments to expand including Novelis Corporation in Sciba, Felix Schoeller in the Town of Richland, SAM North America in the Town of Schroeppel, Dr. Padma Ram in the City of Oswego and Eagle Beverage in the Town of Oswego. In addition, Felix Schoeller, Novelis Corporation, K&N’s Foods USA, Teti Bakery, Huhtamaki and SAM North America, are among a handful of businesses representing direct foreign investment in Oswego County over the past three years. These six companies have invested $434 million that will lead to 640 new jobs in manufacturing. As we move ahead in 2014, our focus is to help make our existing businesses more competitive, facilitate attractions and expansions that will lead to investment and job creation/retention of our economic base, and to continue to enhance the overall business climate in Oswego County.

In Memoriam: Louis R. Pettinelli, Jr. (1933 – 2014) The Board of Directors and staff of Operation Oswego County fondly remember Louis R. Pettinelli, Jr. for his commitment to the organization and for his significant contributions to the economic development process in Oswego County. Lou served as OOC’s president for 14 years and as a member of the OOC Board of Directors for more than 35 years. He also served for over 15 years as a member of COMCO, an economic development organization for Cortland, Madison, Cayuga, Onondaga and Oswego Counties, most recently serving as president. Having started his career as a Physical Education teacher, Lou dedicated much of his time furthering athletics in the schools. He was instrumental in bringing wrestling and lacrosse to the Central Square school district and served as assistant and head football coach in Central Square. Lou also held various offices in the Section III and NYS Wrestling Officials Association and received several honors and awards for his contributions. Lou was also very active at his alma mater, SUNY Cortland. He served on their Board of Directors and held offices in several clubs. Lou retired as Assistant Superintendent of the Central Square Central Schools in 1977. He then served as Deputy Superintendent of Oswego County BOCES until 2003. Lou will be greatly missed.
