Choosing your home

Choosing the right care home is a very important decision. With Care South you can be assured of high-quality, compassionate and individual care. We would encourage you to visit Dorset House, to see for yourself the quality of care our residents are given, and to experience the warm, friendly atmosphere our staff work so hard to create.

We’re happy to come and visit and have a chat, and if it helps, we can also consult with other professionals such as GPs, hospital staff, social workers and occupational therapists, to ensure that each resident gets exactly the care that they need.

There’s no need to make an appointment, although if you’d like to meet one of the senior team members then it’s a good idea to call to make sure they are available at a time to suit you.

Respite care

There are lots of reasons for looking into respite care. It may be useful after a stay in hospital, or while waiting to move somewhere permanent. It gives everyone a break, and can also help families to decide if the time is right to live in a care home permanently.

We maintain and improve the quality of life of people who are no longer able to live independently, helping people who are physically frail or suffering with dementia to get the most out of their lives.

Dorset House has 48 single bedrooms and two double bedrooms, three of which have ensuite facilities. There are plenty of communal areas for residents to relax or socialise in as they wish. We have six lounges, a dining room and a lovely large, secure garden.

We treat people as individuals, creating care plans that blend a variety of needs and take into account personality, lifestyle and their own choices. Our key focus is to deliver compassionate care services with the help of our well trained and experienced team, who have a deep understanding and empathy for our residents.

Before our residents join us, we arrange a meeting with you to make sure we have a clear idea of your individual care needs. We can then prepare a full assessment of your requirements, carefully including personality and lifestyle preferences in your care plan.

Dementia care

Dorset House strives to create a happy and secure environment, based on the best in contemporary dementia care. Facilities and services at Dorset House are designed to encourage residents’ interaction with their environment and help them to feel comfortable and confident.

We have communal areas designed both for quiet reflection and social interaction, depending on what suits your mood. Our landscaped garden is the ideal place for taking some fresh air and gentle exercise. We also have a separate day centre where people from the local community come for interaction and activity.

Our dedicated and skilled team ensures that dementia care is delivered using individual care plans, developed in consultation with the whole family and relevant health and social care professionals.

Enjoying good food is an essential part of well-being, especially in later life. Our chef prepares a wide choice of meals, snacks and drinks and can cater for special dietary needs if required. All residents choose their food at their table in the dining room or can take their meals in their rooms if they prefer.

On-site services at Dorset House include laundry and hairdressing. We can also provide assistance with GPs, dentists, opticians and chiropodists. We have regular church services covering Catholic and Christian Fellowship and we are within reach of a number of other local churches.

Our residents can enjoy a wide variety of organised entertainment if they wish, including bingo and quiz nights, beauty and music sessions, minibus outings to local landmarks and attractions, coffee mornings and arts and crafts mornings.
