Tatsächlich war Chicago die erste Anlaufstelle für die Jazzmusiker aus New Orleans, die im Norden ihr Publikum suchten, wie King Oliver oder Louis Armstrong. Die Stadt ist aber auch der Geburtsort von Swing- Grössen wie Benny Goodman oder Nat "King" Cole. Ganz zu schweigen von der Legion Musiker, die in Chicago Station machten und Blues in einer urbanen Spielweise entwickeln halfen. Stoff genug für eine Hommage an die Stadt der Winde.     2016 Cycle 1 Dane Arts Project and Short Order Grants Arts In Education American Players Theatre Award: $3150 Drawing from over 35 Dane County schools, APT will perform student matinees of the highest quality for over 3,000 elementary, middle and high school students in the fall of 2016. Many of these students will be from rural and underserved areas; many will be seeing classical theater live for the first time. Children’s Theater of Madison Award: $1500 The Young Playwrights program is an in-school residency program designed to give voice to teenagers through the medium of playwriting and through mentoring from teaching artists. The program culminates in a public performance of selected plays, directed and performed by experienced artists. Madison Symphony Orchestra, Inc. Award: $2450 Up Close & Musical® is the Madison Symphony Orchestra (MSO)'s nationally-recognized education program that brings the MSO's Hunt Quartet to Kindergarten-3rd grade classrooms to present exciting and engaging lessons that get students hunting for the musical concepts of expression, melody, rhythm and form in beloved classical music repertoire. Madison Youth Choirs Award: $1800 Madison Youth Choirs continues to helm an increasingly popular in-school choir program at Chavez, Lincoln, Nuestro Mundo and Leopold Elementary schools, and will potentially expand to an additional school in 2016.     WALTER HORTON, AN EASY MAN Discografia completa commentata di Sugarbluz Walter Horton nasce il 6 aprile 1918 in una fattoria vicino a Horn Lake, Mississippi, Contea DeSoto, ma nel suo primo anno d’età la famiglia, che include un fratello, Albert, e tre sorelle, Katy, Maggie e Bernice, si trasferisce nella vicina Memphis, Tennessee. Dapprima si dedica al pianoforte, ma poi il suo passatempo preferito diventa accompagnare, con l’armonica che un bel giorno suo padre porta a casa, i 78 giri di blues che girano sul grammofono di famiglia. Dopo due anni di pratica e scomparso da poco il padre Walter decide di contribuire al sostentamento familiare, così comincia a suonare per le strade di Memphis arrivando a guadagnare anche otto dollari al giorno, e in poco tempo tra i musicisti locali si comincia a parlare del piccolo Walter, ed è così che conosce Floyd Jones, Johnny Shines, Jimmy DeBerry. Ad appena nove anni registra con la nota Memphis Jug Band dell’armonicista e chitarrista Will Shade (detto Son Brimmer, probabilmente il suo primo maestro di tecnica insieme a Hammie Nixon, fedele partner di 'Sleepy' John Estes); il dato non è genericamente accettato vista la giovane età, ma l’autore Samuel Charters ritiene che sia vero. Jamison Master of Arts in Music San Diego State University, 2013 During the late 1960s and early 1970s, it was popular for blues artists—both British and American—to travel across the Atlantic to record with their fellow musicians. Three albums resulted from these collaborative exchanges which have been popular among fans, but also matters of controversy among blues purists: The London Muddy Waters Sessions, The London Howlin' Wolf Sessions, and Fleetwood Mac: Blues Jam in Chicago. Some feel that the American masters did not play to their own potential, and the white, British sidemen sound weak in comparison with their black, American counterparts. These reflections call into question the ability of the British musicians to achieve authentic blues, as well as the ability of the American players to remain authentic in a collaborative environment. In 2002, musicologist, Allan Moore published his article “Authenticity as Authentication,” wherein, he outlined a tripartite typology that can be uses as a basis for evaluating musical performances in terms of the perception of authenticity by those experiencing it. Moore's typology classifies the factors of authenticity into “first-, second-, and third-person.” Or “authenticity of: 'expression,' 'experience,' and 'execution'”.
