FromthePresident June72017 Our Unifed Freight Management U9 Red team did not have to worry about rain as we moved into winter, nor did they have to worry about cold winds. There wasn’t any sun glare either! The issue they had was that they could not see each other in the thick fog. Lucky we don’t keep score as the goal umpires could not see each other to wave their fags. For the parents it was the great tastng cofee from N&N’s Cofee Run that helped us get through the morning partcularly because it helped keep our hands warm.

How big was Monday night? We had over 100 kids from our under 8’s to under 12’s getng some training tps from the FC players which included:

Max Gawn (played from Under 8’s to Under 10’s at the club), Jordin Lewis, Bernie Vince, Cameron Pedersen, Billy Stretch, Alex Neal-Bullen, Jake Spencer and Josh Wagner (no relaton)!

The players spent well over an hour interactng with the kids and co-ordinatng drills. They then spent some tme talking to the boys and fnished of by singing our club song. It was one of the biggest turnouts I’ve seen in my tme at the club. Thank you !

I hope you all enjoy the sleep-in this weekend, which is well deserved as we’ve had footy for 7 weeks straight. For those who are around, we have the under 14’s Interleague comp being played at home from 12pm. We have a couple of our boys playing: Mathew O’Brien and Finn Sullivan, so please do come down and support the boys if you can.

The fxtures for the rest of the season will be released this week so you will be able to plan your winter months a bit beter.

We are again asking for you to book your trivia night tckets sooner rather than later please so we can plan beter. Four tables are already sold so thank you to those parents for getng on to it! Our theme is an easy one for a winter’s night out - Ugly Jumpers! The trybooking link is: www.trybooking.com/QCAJ

Also, if any parent or business can donate to our rafe on the night it would be much appreciated. Please let Katherine know. AQUASTAR SWIM SCHOOLS- U8 GREEN St. Pauls McKinnon JFC vs Cheltenham FC Goal Kickers: L Fletcher 1, H Salwathura 1, T Winzar Best Players: D Osborne, M Comito, L Hyland, H Bennet, A Hyland, H Adler, R Nagar, T Winzar, N Collard, T Bitng, H Salwathura, C Mayne. St Pauls v Cheltenham V2. A rivalry has already begun. The U8’s were keen to atone from the last tme we met. And they did not disappoint!! The kids knew what they had to do and they had come to play right from the start. Cheltenham were strong for the 1st quarter with the game played in our back half. The boys’ resilience shone through with our defence really strong as Cheltenham threw everything they had at us. Whether it was the eforts of ball magnet and co-captain Christan or Ruben, Big Marking Hunter, Max and Aiden, or the in and under courageous eforts by Archie - these boys made sure that Cheltenham went goalless for the quarter. There were a couple of nervous coaches that were watching our loaned players Hayden and Tommy W blitz for Cheltenham in that 1st quarter. The rest of the game was dominated by St. Paul’s. Second quarter saw the charismatc Lewis goal early, followed by a cheeky goal from Harish. Noah, James, Thomas H and Jake applied enormous forward pressure that meant the ball stayed in our forward zone for most of the quarter. This meant there was litle for our centres and backs to do. The 3rd quarter was a scoreless afair, but the repeat eforts of Darcy didn’t go by unnotced. He was terrifc in and under and ofen beat 2 or 3 opponents with scintllatng pace and evasion. Other highlights in the 3rd quarter were Tommy W ‘s great running and 1percenters, Ted’s strong marking, Max’s tough presence and repeat tackles, Ruben’s fearlessness, and Christan’s screamer. 4th quarter saw Daniel and Leroy apply tackling pressure along with great runs by Co Captain Thomas S, Christopher and Charlie. Alexander’s strength in the middle was notceable along with good positoning by Josh in the goal square, where he almost got a goal on 2 or 3 occasions. Today was a day of progress where great leadership was shown by many - the players covered for each other, took risks, shared the ball around, and really worked well as a team. Super efort again boys - The coaches think this was our best game of the season!! Enjoy the well earned rest this weekend and recharge for the 2nd half of the year. Tom

UNIFIED FREIGHT MANAGEMENT - U9 RED St. Paul’s McKinnon Unifed Freight Management vs Waverley Hawks Goal Kickers: Jai Smith 3, Zac Hayward 2,Patrick Pacak 1, Paul Marchinovskiy 1. Best Players: Zac Hayward, Jai Smith, Paul Marchinovskiy, Patrick Rogers.

We contnued with our skill development with a great fought out win over Waverely Hawks. Our backs manned up on their opponents and ran the ball out with determinaton. The forwards contnued to make space and kick the ball long, whilst the centres surrounded the ball ups and throw ins, winning every con- test. We got out of the blocks well. Jai popped up and kicked 3 goals, whilst Zac Hayward brought the crowd to a stand stll with 2 x long bombs kicking truly. Patrick Pacak and Patrick Rogers pushed the ball for- ward contnuously, whilst Paul, Zack & Rhys were in everything. The game was played in great spirit and the boys sang the song with passion afer the game. A fantastc team efort, and we look forward to contnued development over the coming weeks - Peter

MONEYQUEST ST KILDA - U9 BLUE St. Paul’s McKinnon Moneyquest vs Ormond Best Players - not available Goal Kickers - not available On paper St. Paul’s U9 Blue looked partcularly strong. The only thing likely to stop them were frozen bodies. Unfortunately for Ormond it was cold but not that cold. St Paul’s dominated the opening half and created an insurmountable lead. St. Paul’s did ease of in the second half, but the damage was done. The team was well lead by Tom Heggie and David Zhang, with the win being set up by an outstanding frst half performance by birthday boy Marcuns Torcasio and the run and pinpoint passing of Luka Sideridis. Col

GRILL’D CARNEGIE U10 YELLOW St. Paul’s McKinnon Grill’d Carnegie vs Waverley Park Hawks Goalkickers: Ethan Leske 2 Best Players: Jayden Pak, Blake Shepherd, Ryan Elsner, Ethan Leske U10 Yellow contnued their formidable record at home this week against a very tall Mordialloc-Braeside team. Having not played in the last two years, there was a bit of uncertainty about what to expect from this match. In near perfect conditons the frst quarter was a tght contest with neither team getng the ascendency. This contnued into the 2nd quarter and the defensive eforts from our back 6, lead by Blake Shepherd, was outstanding to keep our opponents scoreless in the frst half. In the third quarter our midfeld lifed, Jayden Pak was outstanding getng frst to the ball and was in every contest. Ryan Elsner had a strong third quarter as well and provide plenty of long kicks into our forward zone. Ethan Leske was able to capitalise on the forward momentum kicking two goals in short succession. Things tghtened again in the last quarter and afer a couple of unlucky misses our opponents did manage to kick a solitary goal in the fnal term. Another solid performance from U10 Yellow as we rest up over the long weekend. Steve

SPORTSAFE AUSTRALIA U10 WHITE St. Paul’s McKinnon Sportsafe Australia vs Vampires Best Players: D. Heelis, N. Fato, M. Behnk, F. Barnacle, A. Arshakyan, L. Smith, P. Sullivan. Goal Kickers: Ioan, Finn, Noah, Murphy A fantastc cold morning for footy and the boys were prepared to play their hearts out. The boys were playing the Bentleigh Vampires and boy was it an excitng game. Challenged by a good defence by the Vam- pires – the boys penetrated early from Anri to Ioan to score an excitng goal. The vampires were lucky to land a couple in the frst to respond. The second quarter saw the magic of Finn and Darby work well to see a good delivery to Finn to score. Half tme and it was tght. The scores were close and the boys knew they had to work extra hard to get it over the line. The boys worked fantastc in the third with Paddy controlling the up and ensuring the structure of the midfeld pushed the ball into our forward line and stayed there. Noah, Murphy and Darby all worked amazingly to see a couple of goals go through. In the last, Murphy and Noah were magicians with their weaving again to score a fantastc goal and bring the crowd to their feet. A fantastc and thrilling game that saw the boys really lif on the early chilly morning. Paul HAWTHORN BRICK AND BLOCK TEAM - U11 St. Paul’s 5.6.35 defeated Caulfeld bears 2.3.15. Best: T McGill, T Nugent, G Bitng, L O’Donoghue. Goals: R hayward, Callum Smith, A Dunne, C Iancello, G Stkoltzik

The fog must have put our kids to sleep in the frst quarter at our home ground. Despite some occasional intent from ball winner Sam Scherer, we were 2 goals down by the frst quarter. The leather ball and moist conditons made things tricky early on. From 2nd quarter the match turned. Lucas was tackling and kicking the ball clear from the back line, gus was also playing his opponents close and getng important handballs away to outside players like Sam Tailby. Thomas McGill was on his hands and knees as usual at the botom of packs making sure the oppositon didn’t get any easy crumbs. Tom Nugent was also one of those players in the backline in the 2nd quarter that applied good pressure and tackling which enabled a quick rebound into our forward half. Guy opened our goal account with a very nice kick. It was good to see Christan slot a goal from free play as well, and the team got around him afer. Callum become a reluctant goal scorer two weeks in a row(he prefers centre!). But for the rotatons and his head hitng the hard turf, Sammy Scherer might have got 30 touches (25 will have to do). Hugo and Nic were prolifc as usual in winning the ball, and Ryan grabbed 10 marks for the game. Asher gathered a ground ball from midrange and turned and sloted another, while Ryan also played on and kicked around a player for another major. It is great to see every player apply pressure and infuence the game. In the end, we held the bears scoreless for the fnal 3 quarters while kicking 5 goals ourselves. Tony KIAMA LANDSCAPES AND POOLS TEAM - U12 St. Paul’s McKinnon “Kiama Landscapes and Pools” 1.0-6 lost to Brighton Beach 6.14-50 Goal Kickers: Grima Best Players: Lloyd, Collard, Teal, Healy, Grima, Johnston

Spirits were high as we made our way to Brighton Beach Oval on a beautful Sunday afernoon where you could almost drop a feather straight such was the lack of breeze at our coastal locaton. Unfortunately, from the outset, our opponents wanted the ball more. They were faster, smarter and more skilful. Luke Lloyd and Lachie teal batled hard all day on the ball, but accountability for our opponent was almost non-existent and our disposal lef a lot to be desired. Aiden Collard and Mitch Johnston played as well as they might have expected but too many of our other players had games they would like to forget. Hopefully, we learn from this loss and come to the ground with a far greater collectve attude next match. Mat

CABOT’S - U13 St. Paul’s McKinnon “Cabot’s” 4.8.32 defeated St Peters 4.3.27 Goal Kickers - A.Campbell 2, Behnk, Spitz 1 Best – Freedom of Speech (or print) The Batle of the Saints we came. We played - we conquered. Despite the frst half being like watching Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce (all about the behinds), the second half saw us kick 3 goals, to see us pull of a memorable come-from-behind victory. Coach Behnk’s visit to the bank last week paid of, as he put his credit card on the pitch which enabled us to purchase a few extra goals this week. GOATS words of wisdom - It doesn’t mater where you comes from, all that maters is where you are going. Vic

DULUX - U13 St. Paul’s McKinnon Dulux 13.9-87 def AJAX 2.3-15 Goal Kickers: L Orso 6, J Levine 2, T Whiteley, S Nagar, C Panoutsos, J Mickan, Y Tsoukala Best Players: L Orso, L Ficarra, C Panoutsos, J Mickan, J Levine A late start on a glorious Sunday arvo saw the boys heading down to Princes Park against our opponents in AJAX. The pre-game address asked the boys to focus on a solid start and they brought their A game with them. We got of to a six goal lead at the frst change with our mid line in Noah, Shaun, Joss and Mat get- tng frst use of the ball and runners in Lucas and Josh convertng truly. Our defence was again disciplined with multple atacks startng from the back six with Jared, and Luca providing a solid base, feeding Declan, Gabriel and Charlie. We rested on our laurels allowing AJAX back into the game in Q2 with multple goals in succession whilst remaining goal less ourselves. At half-tme the boys commited to stcking to instruc- tons rather than just ball huntng resultng in a bigger score in the second half and nullifying our opponent to two behinds for the rest of the game. A match winning solo performance by Lucas kicking a lazy six and pushing him to the top of the leaderboard of goalkickers. Congrats to both Jared and Chris on their frst goals for the season. We need to bring this belief, commitment and resilience to every match for the re- mainder of the season. A great team efort. Steve LOOKING 4 CARS TEAM - U14 St. Paul’s McKinnon “Looking for Cars” 4.6.30 defeated by St. Bedes/Mentone Goal Kickers: Mat O’Brien 3, Finn Sullivan Best Players: Liam Gordon-Shore, Liam Glew, Daniel Zhang, Mat O’Brien, Finn Sullivan, Joe Walsh We came up against the in-form side of the competton and they were in form in the frst half. We batled hard in the frst quarter scoring a goal but there were too many holes to fll and by half tme the scoreboard was quite one-sided. The third quarter saw us play some great football where we kicked three goals and won the centre clearances and contested ball. In the last quarter we got a few injuries but fought the game out hard. The boys showed a never say die spirit and never dropped their heads. Sammy

BENTLEIGH RSL - U15 St. Paul’s McKinnon Bentleigh RSL lost to Mordy Braeside Goal Kickers: Evan Prassas Best Players: Jarryd Harris, Flynn Hams and Ollie Anderson

Another tough day for our boys who were completely outclassed by their skilful Mordy Brae opponents. Their slick ball movement was in stark contrast to ours. On too many occasions we worked hard to win the footy only to cough it up straight away with poor disposal. Not a game our boys will be refectng on whilst sipping on their hot chocolates in the high country cafes this weekend. Paddy

Thanks, Donna Campbell stpaulsmckinnon ANNOUNCEMENTS Working with Children Check In the past couple of weeks, the League has received several emails and calls in relation to the exemptions for people requiring a Working With Children Check (WWCC). Please ensure any queries or concerns get directed to the Club Secretary (Katherine Smith) as the league will not respond to individual queries. If anyone has concerns with this decision by the league, here is some information that explains the reasons why a WWCC is required: · Accountability - The league uses BlueQ to verify and monitor qualifcations and registrations of its staff and volunteers. As such the league requires that all relevant individuals are required to have a valid WWCC. BlueQ continually monitors WWCC which fags and notifes the club and the league if their registration is cancelled, expired or suspended. VIT registrations, police checks and other such checks which would have granted exemptions under the Act rely on the individuals informing us of a change in their status. By requiring a WWCC, we remove the risk that an individual will fail to notify us, or that someone will perform duties before their notice reaches us. · Duty of care - By requiring a WWCC for these individuals we ensure that the league as an organisation are doing everything we can to protect the children who play football in our leagues, as we have a legal obliga- tion and responsibility to do (and as your club has a legal obligation and responsibility to do). The extra protection gained by doing this outweighs the inconvenience to individuals of obtaining a check. We understand why some volunteers who are VIT teachers or police offcers have been upset about the decision by the SMJFL, however this is not their intent. These measures are in response to government legislation and legal requirements from 1 January 2017. The league’s priority is the safety of the kids and this decision adds an extra level of protection.

Thank you to all of those offcials that have loaded their WWC details. Our Secretary is currently working to load the last remaining offcials in BlueQ and those people will receive an email in the coming days. If you could please action promptly that would be appreciated.
