Cameron Smith, Petero Civoniceva, Kurt Gidley and Nathan Hindmarsh joined us for about an Wednesday February 9 hour and spoke to the whole school in our new multi-purpose centre. They answered Whole School Assembly the children’s questions and had the chance to give away some NRL merchandise, some of which we will look to use for our Fete later in the year, and joined us for some Friday February 11 group photos (These are attached throughout this newsletter). They also took the time 8 & 9 yr old ‘A” division swim trials to stress to the children the importance of healthy eating habits and regular exercise. The morning was an exciting one for the children (and many staff – Iris Burnell Monday February 14 managed to snare a photo with Petero) and we are indebted to our Assistant Principal, 7pm—P & F Meeting Tony Barron, for his organisation of the day. Tony, through his Queensland Primary School Rugby League contacts, was able to snare this great opportunity at the end of Wednesday February 16 Yr 7—G.C Leadership Liturgy last year.

THE ACTION KICKS OFF THIS SATURDAY NIGHT Sir Peter Leitch Club Newsletter RLWC 2017 24th October 2017 It’s 4 days until the Kiwis play # their first game of the 2017 RLWC 193 Back The Kiwis By Enjoying Lunch By David Kemeys Former Sunday Star-Times Editor, Former Editor-in-Chief Suburban Newspapers, Long Suffering Warriors Fan E ARE only days from the kick-off of the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, with Australia and England W– in what will be a hell of a match - doing the honours on Friday night. Of course the Kiwis take on Samoa on Saturday night at Mt Smart, and that one should be a good game too. League legend Olsen Filipaina is taking the ball out, which is pretty cool given he has represented the Kiwis and Samoa. The game I am looking forward to is the Kiwis v Tonga in Hamilton, because there is not going to be a lot of love lost when those two sides meet, after everything that has gone on. Before a ball is kicked I have the Kiwis lunch at the Ellerslie Events Centre to look forward to on Friday. When Pete asked if I would take it on with Gordon Gibbons and Tony Feasey, I foolishly said yes, not want- ing to let Pete down. But in truth Gordon has been amazing and we have an incredible line-up of Kiwis greats taking to the stage, and players with a long history of World Cup and test glory in attendance. I have been to several of Peter’s Kiwis lunches and enjoyed every one of them.

  • Danny Buderus
Danny Buderus NRL Legend, Assistant Coach & Keynote Speaker Danny Buderus, NRL legend and assistant coach of the Newcastle Knights, is a former Australian NRL international and New South Wales State of Origin representative hooker for the Newcastle Knights. In fact, Danny set a new record for the most games with the club as well as most appearances as captain of the New South Wales State of Origin team. Danny began his rugby league career in his hometown of Taree before being snapped up by Newcastle after trialling with both the Knights and St George. He made his first grade debut with Newcastle in 1997 and, by 2001, was playing for Country Origin, making his Test debut and touring with the Kangaroos. Over the following years, Danny was the recipient of a number of awards including Hooker of the Year for three consecutive years at the Dally M Awards. He also won Knights Player of the Year four times and the Knights’ Players’ Player of the Year trophy three times, an indication of the high esteem in which he was held by his club and team mates. In 2008, Danny announced that he had signed with the Leeds Rhinos for two years. His stint in the UK proved to be a successful one. In 2011, he captained the winning Exiles team in an International Origin game and also played in the Super League Grand Final for the victorious Leeds Rhinos. In 2012, Danny returned to the Knights to play under ‘super coach’ Wayne Bennett, much to the delight of NRL fans and all those involved in the game.

Wales test in June of 2010 Coast at Otorohanga on 28 September 1972. Rest in Peace, Sir Colin Meads By Sir Peter Leitch T WAS with great sadness on Sunday morning that I got a phone call from Sir Colin Meads’ family to say Ithat he had passed away. We all know Sir Colin (Pine Tree) was a famous All Black - number 583 - who made 55 test appearances for the All Blacks, and went on to be captain. He also played 139 games for King Country, and who knows how many for his beloved local team Waitete. We all also know what a great man he was, but what a lot of people don't know, is the great charity work he has done over many years. We had been mates for more years than I care to remember, and I witnessed many charity events he did, some of them even alongside me. He did some TV commercials too, and donated the money to charity. One example of a charity he supported was IHC, where he was involved for more than 40 years. There is nothing I can add to everything that is being said, and I don’t want to, because I am feeling the great loss of a close and dear friend.
