THURSDAY, 8 FEBRUARY, 2018 DARK ANGEL SON LEADS THE WAY AT GOFFS ESTABLISHED SIRES: By Daithi Harvey WHERE=S THE VALUE? The second session of the Goffs February Sale was devoted to short yearlings and the current polarised nature of the European bloodstock market was evident at times during the day when trade was quite tough for many lots that were not deemed to possess obvious commercial appeal. Despite these challenging facets of the market, the right types were still changing hands for good money and it was a son of Dark Angel (Ire) who topped proceedings when selling to Daniel Creighton for i140,000. This top price, which smashed last year's equivalent of i86,000, helped push the majority of the KPI's in the right direction. A total of 110 of the 182 offered yearlings found new homes for a slightly reduced clearance rate of 60%, which highlights the selective nature of the market. However, the strength at the top end resulted in a 15% increase in the aggregate to i1,624,600, which in turn led to a 23% rise in average to i14,769 and a 45% Chris McGrath states the case for Raven=s Pass | Darley increase in the median to i8,000. Secretariat Amelia Szczepanski Paper Junior Division 1843 Words on Paper
Secretariat Amelia Szczepanski Paper Junior Division 1843 words on paper Introduction In 1973, a four-legged horse Secretariat raced his last Triple Crown race in the Belmont Stakes race, setting the record for the fastest Triple Crown racer, becoming one of the most important race horses of all-time. He not only set a record at one Triple Crown Track, but Secretariat also set records at all three. Forty-seven years ago, Secretariat provided a distraction from the Vietnam War and provided outstanding performances. And for Forty-seven years those records have never been broken. The Invisible Barriers Have Been Broken Secretariat broke barriers by setting records at not one, not two, but all three Triple Crown tracks. He set the fastest time at all three, but many more at the individual tracks. Secretariat was considered the underdog, but pulled through and won the title of the triple crown winner, and the immortal horse. Leaving everyone in shock or excitement in 1973, Secretariat broke the invisible barriers. Owner Secretariat’s owner was Penny Chenery. Penny Chenery grew up on her dad's farm. She went down to Kentucky to attend the funeral of her mother. It was then she realized that her dad couldn’t run his stables all by himself1. 1 Secretariat. 2011.
