2 THE ROYAL WINNIPEG BALLET To Our Audience A Message From André Lewis

The circumstances of this calendar year have brought on many changes, from which Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet has not been exempt. It’s certainly no secret to say that our operations have been affected at almost every level, and despite this, we have continually pursued our dream of performing heartfelt and evocative dance before an audience. Although it has not been without its own changes, Fast Forward: Innovative Dance Inspired by Dancers is a true testament to that dream and gives hope for what is to come. The rehearsal excerpts you are about to see are brimming with creative passion. Each one is a love letter to the art of dance, written with an unwavering commitment and dedication, signed by our own company dancers. Together, they have taken all of the uncertainty, longing and hope that many of us experienced throughout this tumultuous year and expressed it, as only artists can, in a special performance series. Originally planned to be viewed by a live audience in a black box theatre, Fast Forward is the culmination of many weeks of choreographic work and rehearsals from our artists. We hoped that by giving them tabula rasa, the dancers could begin to express the emotions that so many of us have felt over the last nine months. The work they turned in is exactly that, distilled and refined, as only our dancers could. Fast Forward would not be possible without your enduring support. On behalf of everyone at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, thank you for joining us for this special look inside the rehearsal studios at the incredible efforts and expressions created by our dancers.

André Lewis, Artistic Director & CEO
