More than 50 teachers and school staff of pilot schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina attended the virtual Round Table on Competences for Democratic Culture and Comprehensive Access to School organized on February 25, 2021 within the joint project of the European Union and the Council of Europe "Quality Education for All" .

Shortly after school closed, all education authorities in primary and secondary schools began to apply online and distance learning modalities, and all students completed the school year online in June / July 2020.
When applying online learning, education authorities and schools have opted for various software / communication tools. Some units have developed and used web platforms, such as e-Teaching in Republika Srpska, e-Schools in Herzegovina-Neretva Canton and schools.sum in West Herzegovina Canton, Posavina Canton and Canton 10. The Una-Sana Canton Education Authorities have piloted their own newly developed platform in a smaller number of schools.
Seven education authorities combined online classes with TV classes, which were mainly organized for children in the lower grades of primary school (ISCED 1). Children in the upper grades of primary school (ISCED 2) and in grammar schools (ISCED 3) were able to watch TV lessons in some administrative units.
Classes for primary and secondary school students in BiH began in accordance with the law, ie the school calendar, with the possibility of further revision in accordance with the epidemiological situation.
The teaching process in Sarajevo Canton, Tuzla Canton and Bosnian Podrinje Canton Goražde began on September 1, and in other cantons on September 7, except for Zenica-Doboj Canton, where classes for primary and secondary school students began on Tuesday, September 8. In this canton, a combined model (return to school a certain number of days and online classes) is applied for all primary and secondary school students.
The decision to return all students to school was decided by the West Herzegovina, Herzegovina- Neretva, Bosnia-Podrinje Canton of Goražde and Canton 10, and all others for the combined model, which implies that students return to school and all others continue. realization of teaching in online format.
The lesson will last mostly 30 minutes in small groups not exceeding 15 students. The RS government has decided that classes in primary and secondary schools in Republika Srpska will begin on September 1st. The lesson lasts 30 minutes in primary school and 20 minutes in secondary school. Each class with more than 15 students will be divided into two groups so that teachers will hold classes first for one group, then for another group of students.
In the RS and the cantons in the Federation of BiH, students with chronic diseases and students who have people from risk groups in their households are not obliged to attend regular school classes, and online classes will be provided for them.
The school year in primary and secondary schools in the Brcko District began on time, on Monday, September 7. Elementary and high school students return to school, and the duration of the school lesson is 45 minutes.
Upon the initial meeting and exchange of experience on inclusion in education between the Agency for Pre-Primary, Primary and Secondary Education and representatives of CIDREE (Consortium of Institutions for Development and Research in Education in Europe) pursued were activities on developing the Guidelines for Inclusive Education.

The Agency for Pre-primary, Primary and Secondary Education of BiH has presented the PISA 2018 survey results and recommendations for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Student achievements in our country are far below OECD international average and rank low in a regional context.
Respondents from BiH showed very low levels in reading, mathematics and science literacy. The difference between our average achievement and OECD average is estimated as 3 years of schooling, which, metaphorically speaking means the BiH fifteen-year-olds were at the level of 12-year-olds of OECD average at the time they took the test.
The minimum level of achievement is not reached by 58% students in mathematics, 54% in reading and 57% in science, and, at the same time, less than 1% of our examinees achieved maximum results.
The international survey TIMSS 2019 was administered in period 21.05. – 13.06. 2019. in primary schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The survey included 178 primary schools, 336 classes and more than 6,000 fourth-grade pupils.
Upon the TIMSS 2019 main survey administration, completed was the process of scoring the TIMSS 2019 constructed response items.
