They are the team that I wouldn’t want to play right now. They’re getting better and starting to figure out their issues on the defensive side of the ball,” said Johnston. Johnston believes the presence of now interim head coach Joe Vitt and Mickey Loomis has served the team chemistry well. “The personality of Joe Vitt being in the building now for three weeks and with Mickey Loomis coming back helps. DAVIS PREVIEWS SHOWDOWN IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FOR TRIP TO PAC-12 TITLE GAME In the preseason, most would have predicted USC would be vying to play in the Pac-12 championship game, but UCLA’s performance this season has been more of a surprise. College Football on FOX lead analyst Charles Davis looks at the battle in Southern California this weekend and how UCLA surpassed expectations this season. “Jim Mora brings a degree of toughness that a lot of people thought was lacking at UCLA,” said Davis. “It’s not just a physical toughness but a mental one too. UCLA did have talent left after Rick Neuheisel left but I’m not sure too many people saw it coming down to the USC/UCLA game. Jim Mora knows how to coach and they are now playing in his image.”
