On the evening of Saturday, July 30, 1853, a group of citizens gathered in a church in the village of Woodville, Long Island. Not too long before they were notified by the US Government that a request to open a Woodville post office had been turned down because there already was a Woodville in existence in upstate New York.

On that fine evening the residents voted to re-name the village to Woodhaven and the first Woodhaven Town Hall came to a suc- cessful end.

Since 1972 the community of Woodhaven has gathered to discuss important issues affecting residents at Town Hall meetings sponsored by the Woodhaven Residents’ Block Association.
