Congratulations Graduates Congratulations Graduates FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) What does the virtual graduation ceremony include? DeKalb County School District partnered with Herff Jones and their affiliates, MarchingOrder and StageClip, to manage and broadcast the school district’s first virtual graduation ceremonies for twenty-four schools, scheduled to air June 15-20, 2020. The ceremony will include speeches from the Valedictorian, Salutatorian and Principal of each school. Board members will share words of encouragement with students. Superintendent Tyson will certify that graduation requirements have been met, and Members of the Board will accept the certification authorizing students to be graduates. Student pictures will be shown during the ceremony while the names of graduates are announced. Where can I find the links to view the ceremonies? The DeKalb County School District’s Grad Central website listed below will broadcast each ceremony according to the dates and times on the graduation schedule. You may select from one of the following platforms on Grad Central to view the ceremonies: DeKalb Schools TV, YouTube, or Facebook Live. You may also visit the Grad Central website to find individual school links to all virtual ceremonies closer to the start date of each ceremony. Links are not active until the actual ceremony date and time for each school. https://www.dekalbschoolsga.org/graduation/watch-live/ Are recordings of the graduation ceremonies available following the broadcast? Yes. Links to download graduation ceremonies will be shared on Grad Central once the ceremony dates have passed. You may also view all ceremonies on DSTV during the week of June 27, 2020. What additional information can you share? Students who uploaded individual recognition clips are able to obtain permanent copies of these clips from the graduation website established for each school. Additional information will be placed on the Grad Central website following the ceremonies. Closed Caption/Language Selections. Please see the information below from StageClip. YouTube is constantly improving its speech recognition technology. Automatic captions are generated by machine-learning algorithms, so the quality of the captions may vary. StageClip has found that the majority of ceremonies so far have been captioned; however, captions may not work every time. StageClip aims to put videos up with enough time for the algorithms to work. As backup, select the appropriate language and closed caption options on your video viewing devices. 2 0 2 0 V I R T U A L GRADUATION SCHEDULE JUNE 15-20, 2020 Date School Time Cross Keys High School 9 AM Arabia Mountain High School 1 PM Monday June 15, 2020 Miller Grove High School 5 PM Chamblee High School 8 PM Stephenson High School 9 AM Clarkston High School 1 PM Tuesday June 16, 2020 Redan High School 5 PM Dunwoody High School 8 PM Martin Luther King, Jr High School 9 AM Cedar Grove High School 1 PM Wednesday June 17, 2020 Lithonia High School 5 PM Stone Mountain High School 8 PM Elizabeth Andrews High School 9 AM McNair High School 1 PM Thursday June 18, 2020 Columbia High School 5 PM DeKalb School of the Arts 8 PM Southwest DeKalb High School 9 AM Druid Hills High School 1 PM Friday June 19, 2020 Tapestry Charter School 5 PM Lakeside High School 8 PM Towers High School 9 AM Saturday Tucker High School 1 PM June 20, 2020 DeKalb Early College Academy 5 PM Margaret Harris Comprehensive School 8 PM .

Stephen Green EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS James Jackson Basketball Coordinator Dr. Tekshia Ward -Smith ATHLETIC SPECIALIST Chris Chilton ATHLETIC SPECIALIST Mark Brock 2 DEKALB COUNTY’S LONG HISTORY OF STATE CHAMPIONS DeKalb County’s proud basketball history began and continues with a championship pedigree. The Clarkston boys brought home the first state trophy in 1940, and 41 other teams have since realized the big prize in the ensuing 76 years. From legendary coach Elmer Morrow ’s dominating boys teams at Druid Hills in the 1950s to the current boys powerhouses at Miller Grove and Columbia, the list of win- ners is an impressive one. Druid Hills knocked off Avondale (50 -44), Tifton (47 -44) and Jeff Davis (55 -42) in state finals in 1953, 1954 and 1957 respectively. Stone Mountain and Clarkston on the boys side, and Druid Hills and Stone Mountain among the girls served as the other early local powers. E.L. Rainey , another of DeKalb County’s original hoop coaching giants, led Stone Mountain to the Class B crown in 1957. Tom Church guided Clarkston to its second boys state championship with a victo- rious effort in the class B final in 1964. The girls matched the boys for the first time at Druid Hill in 1960, with Virginia Canady coaching that squad to the Class AAA title.

Thurmond CHARTER SYSTEM PETITION COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT SESSIONS Parents: The DeKalb County School District is seeking to become the largest charter system in the state of Georgia. In order to accomplish this goal, the district must submit a petition to the Georgia Department of Education seeking charter system status, and your input in this petition is sought. The district is seeking your thoughts on autonomy and flexibility at your school and how that autonomy and flexibility can lead to innovations in how students are taught and how the school is governed. Five community engagement sessions have been scheduled, and anyone seeking the opportunity to provide input is invited to attend, including parents, teachers, and other community members. You are also encouraged to review information from the Georgia Department of Education concerning charter systems, including some of the petitions from other school systems around the state that are already operating as a charter district. That information can be found at the following web address: http://www.gadoe.org/External- Affairs-and-Policy/Charter-Schools/Pages/default.aspx. The Community Engagement Sessions will occur at the following locations: Region IV Lithonia High School Tuesday, August 26 @ 6:00 PM Region II Lakeside High School Wednesday, August 27 @ 6:00 PM Region I Dunwoody High School Thursday, August 28 @ 6:00 PM Region V Towers High School Tuesday, September 2 @ 6:00 PM Region III Stephenson High School Wednesday, September 3 @ 6:00 PM We thank you in advance for your participation and look forward to seeing you soon!
