Manager, Community Relations and Merchandising

Reports To: Director, Business Operations

The Manager, Community Relations and Merchandising will be responsible for managing the Generals Merchandise Store which includes and not limited to; hiring part-time staff, ordering all merchandise within a provided budget, maintaining a professional looking merchandise store, handling all of the ordering and providing constant communication for the Oshawa Minor Generals program and much more. This individual will also be responsible for handling the Special Events and Community Relations within the team such as; School visits with the players, planning and executing the Future Generals Hockey Camp, Awards Banquet and more.

Description of Organization:

The Oshawa Generals Hockey Club is a member of the Hockey League (OHL) and . Established in 1937, the Oshawa Generals are an integral part of the Oshawa and Durham Region community.

The positive development of hockey players both on and off the ice is our focus, giving the players outstanding facilities and coaches to master their craft while being key members of the community. A winning attitude runs deep within the Generals organization having won 13 OHL Championships and 5 Memorial Cups.

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Director, Business Operations, responsibilities include running a successful merchandise store and executing in a professional matter all team special events and community appearances. Some other responsibilities include:

• Attend all 34 Oshawa Generals home games which are frequently on evenings, weekends and holidays

• Manage all aspects of the Generals Store including budget management, selection/ordering of merchandise, inventory control, and order fulfillment

• Responsible for building community contacts and maintaining relationships with groups and charitable organizations

• Handle the task of planning, organizing and administering all community programs and events such as Adopt-A-School Program, Volunteer Ticket Program, Kid's Club etc.

• Oversee and attend all player-related activities such as signing sessions, pre and/or postgame player events, and all community appearances including schools, hospitals, hockey practices, and sponsor visits • Oversee all Charity intiatives within the team, ie; Toolzy's Troops, Camp F.A.C.E.S, etc.

• Responsible for all planning and execution of all off-season events such as The Oshawa Generals Awards Banquet, Hockey School and Oshawa Generals Road Tour

• Direct point of contact for all Oshawa Generals Alumni

• Direct point of contact for Oshawa Minor Hockey; responsible for ordering of team merchandise

• All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Candidate must be 18 years of age or older to apply

• Minimum of 1-2 years experience in the Merchandise sector

• Minimum of 1-2 years experience in Community Relations/Special Event Planning

• Minimum of 1-2 years experience in managing a team of 3-6 people

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Can adjust and adapt quickly to situations

• Ability to work with others in a fast-paced environment under pressure

• Must be professional at all times

• Ability to take direction and feedback

• Available to work all home games including preseason and post season if applicable

• Ability to stand on feet for 3-4 hours per game

• Ability to lift boxes over 45lbs
