Claiming Our God Given Selves When we have been deeply hurt by another person, it is nearly impossible not to have hostile thoughts, feelings of anger or hatred, and even a desire to take revenge. All of this often happens spontaneously, without much inner control. We simply find ourselves brooding about what we are going to say or do to pay back the person who has hurt us. To choose blessings instead of curses in such a situation asks for an enormous leap of faith. It calls for a willingness to go beyond all our urges to get even and to choose a life- giving response. Sometimes this seems impossible. Still, whenever we move beyond our wounded selves and claim our God-given selves, we give life not just to ourselves but also to the ones who have offended us. –Henri Nouwen St. Agnes Parish 7 September 9, 2018

Hi Everyone, “Sing a new song to the Lord, who has done marvelous deeds…Shouting with joy to the Lord, all the earth; break into song and sing praise!! (Psalm 98: 1,4) St. Agnes is planning exactly that! We have many marvelous events and happenings prepared for our 2018/2019 season!! I hope you had a wonderful summer. How can it already be September? So here we go with a list of musical happenings for you to take part in or attend: I am fortunate to be able to present “Saint Ann on Broadway” featuring myself and all my musical friends and the musically talented children of Saint Ann’s Catholic School. They will be performing your favorites from the Broadway stage. These kids are tremendous, and you don’t want to miss them under the direction of our own talented Amy Van Wyk. The “Saint Ann on Broadway” concert is Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. at our Parish Center Hall. Tickets are $25.00 per person. The proceeds will benefit Saint Ann’s School. Tickets are on sale now in the parish office and after all Masses on the weekends except the 5:00 p.m. Other concert events include a Patriotic Paul Todd and friends’ concert, Thursday, November 8, 2018 and our annual Paul Todd and friends “Spirit of Christmas” concerts December 10th and 11th all held in our Parish Center Hall, each of these concerts proceeds benefit St. Agnes Parish CFA. I am excited to announce that St. Agnes will hold their first annual Advent Lessons and Carol Service at 6:30 p.m. in the church on Saturday, December 8, 2018. It will feature music and readings of the season. The music and liturgy will be supplied by our readers, cantor’s and both adult and children’s choirs along with our priests. Mark your calendars for this very special service of the Advent season. I am calling all singers/choristers to consider being a part of the St. Agnes choirs. Rehearsals start in October and the season runs thru Mother’s Day, May 12, 2019. This is a great way to use your time, talent and treasure here at St. Agnes. The choirs sing every Sunday and at special events and during the holidays. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings in the church. Children rehearse at 5:00 p.m. and Adults rehearse at 7:00 p.m. He who sings prays twice and its such a beautiful enhancement to our liturgy. Come join in this very important ministry of our church! May God continue to bless you and your family always! Paul Todd St. Agnes Parish 10 September 9, 2018

Christ has no body on earth but yours, no hands, no feet but yours… “ –St. Teresa of Avila ” A STEWARDSHIP PRAYER for September

From the ICSC Lord Jesus Christ, As we begin to shift from summer schedules to autumn demands, teach us to recognize you, and help us follow you amidst our busy life. Open the Scriptures to us… that we may know you, see you, hear you – in the voices of friends and family, in the ministries of our parish, in the proclamation of the Word, and in the Breaking of the Bread. Teach us to be good stewards, that we may use your gifts wisely and care for all those you place in our path. Encourage us, when we are overwhelmed. Strengthen us, when we are frightened. Challenge our complacency. Help us make this new season a time of spiritual renewal, hope, and action to proclaim the Gospel in our words and in our deeds. For the kingdom and the power and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.

Coming Soon, Keep a Lookout, for the stewardship newsletter! St. Agnes Parish 11 September 9, 2018 St. Agnes Parish 12 September 9, 2018 St. Agnes Parish 13 September 9, 2018
