INTRODUCTION SISBI/UFU library Collection is formed by informational material acquired through purchase, donation and/or exchange. In order to select, to acquire, to process and to download these materials it is necessary to establish criteria through the Collection development Policy, to guarantee the quality and quantity of our Collection. 2. GENERAL GOAL SISBI aims to meet the information needs of teachers, students and staff, collaborating for trinomium teaching, for research and Institution extension. 3. SPECIFIC GOALS The Policy of Collection formation and development aims to define the criteria for Collection development and updating, such as: a) to establish the criteria for works selection by observing the quantity and quality, according to courses' characteristics and needs; b) permanently update the Collection, allowing its growth and balance; c) to set priorities and deadlines for informational material acquisition; d) to direct, to streamline and to manage financial resources; e) to establish, to formalize and to manage the exchange of periodicals published by UFU; f) to establish guidelines for Collection evaluation; g) to draw up guidelines for disposing material. 4 4 REPONSABILITY SISBI Directors Board and DAPT - SSA are responsible for the creation and implementation of SISBI Collection development Policy. 5 COLLECTION FORMATION The Collection must be constituted according to the available budgetary resources, contemplating the different types of materials in varied supports, aiming at the quantitative and qualitative growth. This material should serve as an informational support to teaching, research and Institution extension activities. Each library Collection must be constituted according to the knowledge areas of the campus where the library is located, unless some faculty justifies its use during the course as a basic bibliography. 6 GENERAL SELECTION CRITERIA As for the Collection formation, the informational material must be selected according to the following criteria: a) adequacy of the academic curriculum to the institution research lines; b) content updating and quality; c) amount (excess/shortage) of material on a same subject within the collection; d) subject coverage/treatment; e) justifiable cost/benefit ratio; f) accessible language; g) potential users; h) material physical conditions; i) original publications; j) format compatible with existing equipment; k) if it is regarding periodicals: that are not available by free access online; 5 that are indexed in some database; that possess good conceptualization in Qualis (Capes); that the content covered is not multidisciplinary. In order to ensure a rational and balanced Collection growth, it is necessary to adopt quantitative and qualitative development criteria. 6.1 Qualitative selection Selection and Acquisition Sector (SESEL) is responsible for the periodic disclosure of the periods of acquisition of informational material and the collection to the units for this assignment to be fulfilled.
