ADDITIONAL MATERIALS Circular knitting needle size 2 (2.75 mm), 16 in. (40.5 cm) long Circular knitting needle size 3 (3.25 mm), 16 in. (40.5 cm) long Double pointed knitting needles size 3 (3.25 mm), set of 5

GAUGE 28 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) over chart with larger needle. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

STITCH EXPLANATIONS M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal strand lying between needles and placing it onto the left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop – 1 st increased. s2kp Slip next 2 sts as if to knit them together, knit 1, pass the 2 slipped sts up and over the knit st and off the needle – 2 sts decreased. ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them together – 1 st decreased.

NOTES 1. Tam is worked in one piece in the round. 2. Hat is worked in Fair Isle colorwork with 2 colors of yarn per rnd. Carry the color not in use across WS of work. At the end of every other rnd, twist the working yarn around unused color. If carrying color across 5 or more sts, twist yarns on WS to prevent overly long strands (floats) on the WS. 3. Colorwork and shaping are worked following the charts. Read all rnds of charts from right to left. 4. The finished piece is blocked over a dinner plate to achieve the traditional Tam shape.

TAM With smaller circular needle and B, cast on 120 sts. Place marker for beg of rnd. Lion Brand® LB Collection® Superwash Merino Fair Isle Tam Pattern Number: L80382 with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts.

Change to A. Rnd 1: Knit. Rnd 2: *K2, p2; rep from * around. Rep Rnd 2 until piece measures about 1 1/2 in. (4 cm) from beg.

Change to larger circular needle. Increase Rnd: *K2, M1; rep from * to end of rnd – you’ll have 180 sts. Knit 8 rnds. Join B.

Begin Diamond Chart Work Rnds 1-19 of Diamond Chart, then cut B. With A, knit 8 rnds. Join B.

Begin Crown Chart Work Rnds 1-27 of Crown Chart, changing to double pointed needles when sts have been sufficiently decreased.

Cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail. Thread tail through remaining sts and pull to close opening at top of Tam. Knot securely.

FINISHING Blocking Slip finished Tam over a dinner plate. Spray with water and pat stitches into place, pinching the Tam along the outer edge of the plate to create the Tam shape. Allow to dry.

Weave in ends.
