The name Meleto in Chianti is cited for the first time in 1256 in the Book of Estimates of the Florentine Guelfs, as property of the Ricasoli family.

It began as a military post contested by Florence and Siena – the traces of which are still visible today in the massive, 15th century fortifications and imposing, round tower – and later became a noble country home. Owned by Viticola Toscana, a joint stock company established in 1968, nowadays controlled and managed by the Schuler family.
