Best Start in Thunder History: After claiming a 97-85 victory over the Miami Heat this past Monday night, the Thunder improved to 6-1 on the season which represented the best start for the Thunder through seven games during the Oklahoma City era. Tonight, Oklahoma City will look to bounce-back after losing at home for the first time this season on Wednesday evening to the Toronto Raptors (currently 4-1 at Chesapeake Energy Arena). OKC is currently in the midst of a five-game homestand and a stretch in which the club is set to play eight of nine games at Chesapeake Energy Arena. In the Wins: In the Thunder’s six wins this season, the Thunder is outscoring the opposition by a 103.8 to 93.8 margin. In those games, OKC is limiting the opposition to just 40.6% shooting (OKC has held the opponent to under 100 points in five of the team’s six wins this season). On the year, OKC ranks second in defensive 3-point field goal percentage (.298) while ranking seventh in opponent field goal percentage (.433). Never Before: Russell Westbrook helped lead the Thunder to a perfect 3-0 start to the season and in those games Westbrook became the first player in NBA history to register 100+ points, 30+ rebounds and 30+ assists in the first three games of a season. For the first week of the season, the NBA named Westbrook the Western Conference Player of the Week. First since Magic: After recording a second consecutive triple-double on Oct. 30 versus the Lakers, Russell Westbrook became the first player to record a triple-double in two of the first three games of the season since Magic Johnson accomplished the feat (to begin the 1982-83 season). Westbrook is one of four players all time to register two triple-doubles in the first three games of the season [Johnson (2x), Jerry Lucas and Oscar Robertson (2x)]. First since Kareem: During the Thunder’s 113-100 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Oct. 28, Russell Westbrook became the first player since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1/19/75) to register a triple-double that included 50+ points scored. On the night, Westbrook, scored 51 points to go along with a team-high 13 rebounds and 10 assists. Westbrook equaled a Thunder record by scoring 23 points in the third quarter alone. By accomplishing the feat, Westbrook is now one of just five players (Abdul-Jabbar, Elgin Baylor, Richie Guerin and Wilt Chamberlain) in NBA history to post a triple-double that included 50+ points scored. Home Opener: On Oct. 28 at Chesapeake Energy Arena, the Thunder prevailed over the Phoenix Suns in overtime to claim an eighth consecutive home opening victory. After defeating the 76ers in Philadelphia two nights earlier, the Thunder improved to 6-3 in season openers during the Oklahoma City era. Preseason is Spain: The Thunder began exhibition play with a pair of preseason contests in Madrid and Barcelona, Spain. Oklahoma City returned stateside after splitting their two contests in Europe against Real Madrid and FC Barcelona Lassa. Oklahoma City participated in the Global Games Europe for the first time since 2013 when the Thunder faced-off against the Philadelphia 76ers in Manchester, England and Fenerbahçe Ulker in Istanbul, Turkey. Oklahoma City finished 2016 preseason play with a record of 3-3 after winning their last two exhibition games versus Minnesota and Denver by a combined 28 points. International Flavor: Currently, the 2016-17 Thunder roster features five international players (places OKC in top third of the league with respect to number of international players).

Brooks, Contributing Editor BOULDER - March is a couple of days away, which means Madness isn't far behind. 'Tis the time of season when college hoops and its soon-to-be-wacko fans can start paying serious attention to bracketology and RPIs - and if I have to footnote either term, you might as well stop reading here. Game Notes at Stanford After practice the other day, Colorado coach Tad Boyle conceded he pulls up bracketology on his desktop computer about "once a week - and I shouldn't admit that." He also "checks our RPI daily; that's a number I'm pretty dialed into." And why should Boyle forbid himself to peruse either? Although he's a strict one-game-at-a-time guy, he's got a little more invested in Buffs basketball than you or me. But like you and me, he's keenly interested in various seers' mid-March forecasting and where his team might land. "It's part of the world we live in," Boyle explained. "I don't focus on it, I can promise you that. When I come to practice I don't think about it. I don't think about it before I go to bed.
