Job Description for Pottery and Ceramics Teacher

Responsible to: Principal and Assistant Principals

You will prepare and deliver teaching and learning that meets the individual needs of students. You will support the students helping them develop their skills, knowledge and understanding. You will have the ability and passion to enthuse and support students to enjoy their learning and you will motivate them to aspire to achieve to their greatest potential. Main Responsibilities:

Teaching and learning  To implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for Pottery and Ceramics to students age 14-17.  To monitor and support the overall progress and development of students to include completion of on line student tracking and report writing.  To facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential.  To contribute to maximizing of student attainment.  To share and support the school’s responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal and academic growth.  teach students figure/animal focused modelling

Planning  To develop teaching resources, develop and complete schemes of work, write lesson plans, consider appropriate marking policies and teaching strategies in the Waldorf Curriculum area.  To contribute to the curriculum area and department’s development plan and its implementation.  To ensure department documentation and practice in relation to Health and Safety is in place and adhered to.

 To assist in the process of curriculum development in Pottery and Ceramics so as to ensure the continued relevance to the needs of students, examining and awarding bodies and the school’s ethos.  To ensure that the equipment is in good working order and suitable for teaching use.

General Duties  Participate in relevant meetings with colleagues, parents and be involved in links with external agencies as part of curriculum enhancement, including extra- curricular activities and off-site visits.  Support other members of the curriculum area and students as appropriate.  Review your own professional development and maintain professional standards.  Carry out any other such duties as the post holder may reasonably be required to do.  Maintain a clean, tidy workshop space.

Person Specification for Pottery and Ceramics teacher

Essential Desirable Knowledge Excellent subject knowledge

Knowledge of the Pottery and Ceramics curriculum for Waldorf students or a willingness to learn, observe and explore this in your teaching Skills Ability to teach Pottery and Ceramics, Proven successful class including coil pot work, modelling, teaching in a Steiner wheel potting, ceramics and glaze work Waldorf school. First Aid at Work Proven teaching experience at Certificate. secondary level Teaching experience in a secondary subject. A recognised teaching qualification for Approved Steiner pottery and ceramics or relative Waldorf Teaching experience. Qualification and/or B.Ed. GCSE A*-C English and maths qualification (or equivalent) Knowledge of ISAMS an advantage Work on your own initiative Ability to research, produce and use teaching resources Ability to work in a team Good communication skills
