The 2Nd Asian All Star Event Held at Tatia Tope Nagar Stadium In The 2nd Asian All Star event held at Tatia Tope Nagar Stadium in Bhopal, India saw top Asian athletes competing at the various athletics event for the one day affair (18th September 2008). Overall the competition was dominated by the Indians with notable top Asian athletes pulling out last minute for a DNS status The prize money being offered was enticing as a gold medal will nab the athlete $1500, while a silver fetched $800 and a bronze will make the athlete $500 richer. Indian athletes made use of home ground advantage when they won 9 out of the total 18 events being contested Anil Singh broke the 80-meter barrier in the men’s javelin throw when he launched a 80.72m effort. He erased the old 79.68m ten year old record by Satbir Singh. He ousted Japan’s Kazuki Yamomoto, who could only settle for second placing with 75.16m throw while another Indian, Sandeep Yadav took the third spot with 70.18m effort The 100m women final event saw a photo-finish end as the top three finisher was credited with 11.79 seconds timing, Kazakhstan’s Anastasiya Soprunova, Indian’s Jyothi and Vietnam’s Vu Thi Huong was inseparable 22 year old Kazakhstan’s Anastasiya Soprunova showed her talent again, but this time in the 100m hurdles women final. She easily won it in a time of 13.36 seconds. Close behind was her compatriot Natalya Ivoninskaya 13.51 seconds, where Ivoninskaya was upsetted and a far cry from her season best of 12.82 seconds. Third was Filipino’s Sheena Atilano (14.07s). In the women’s high jump saw a surprise winner as Vietnamese Bui Thi Nhing was on good form for the day, as she outjumped Asian record holder (1.98m) Yekaterina Yevseyeva of Kazakhstan. Bui Thi Nhing won the event with a height of 1.88m. Yevseyeva had to settle for silver with an effort of 1.85m while the bronze went to India’s Kavya Muthanna (1.70m) The Asian champion men’s high jumper from Malaysia, Lee Hup Wei was defeated by Japanese Hikaru Tsuchiya. There was a three same heighted jump for the top three placing at 2.18m but the countback awarded Hikaru Tsuchiya his gold and Lee Hup Wei silver.
