This senior class, the CLASS OF 2020 has certainly accomplished this goal. Although we are excited for your new and exciting life beyond JBHS, you will be missed by the Faculty, Staff and Administration. – Kenny Knoop, Assistant Principal of Guidance and Alumnus of JBHS Class of 1995 LETTER TO THE GRADUATING CLASS OF 2020 Dear Class of 2020:

In a typical year, I would begin this letter with “Congratulations!” but we all know that this is not a typical year. Our lives, especially yours, have been fl ipped upside down, especially yours. You have worked hard for 13 years to reach this point. This should be a time of celebration and refl ection, but many of your senior year activities that you were counting on have been stripped away. While it is nobody’s fault that this pandemic has happened, I want to say I hear you and I feel your pain. So what do we do in times of crisis? We grieve. We each go through various stages of grief. It is not linear. It is not predictable. It is not the same for everyone. So no matter where you are in that process, please know we will get through this together. For those of you who are not ready to celebrate, I understand. Please reach out to those who you can count on and they will help you during this diffi cult time. For those of you who are ready to celebrate, I say Congratulations!

So what is next? There will be opportunities, failures, and successes. You have your whole lives ahead of you. Learn from the past, enjoy today, and plan for your future has always been advice that I try to follow, but I, like the rest of us, do not always follow that advice. Instead, this crisis reminds me not to take for granted what I have today.

Class of 2020, you have endured signifi cant challenges, but you will be stronger because of them. I am confi dent the Class of 2020 is the class that will lead us to a brighter future!

Sincerely, Matt Hill, Ed.D. VIDEO PRODUCTION NICOLAS SKRABAK

This year’s recipient of the department award for Video Pro- duction is Mr. Nicolas Skrabak. I have had the honor and the privilege of having Nic as a student for the past four years. It has been a pleasure to watch him grow not only as a fi lmmaker, but also and more importantly as a human being. He entered as a wide-eyed freshman, who quietly sat in class hoping to re- main anonymous in a room fi lled with upperclassmen. Howev- er, Nic’s work would not allow him to fl y under the radar of his classmates and teacher. His video projects were of an extraordi- narily high standard, demonstrating not only technical skill, but also a sensitivity and emotional understanding unheard of in a thirteen-year-old. Nic’s video montage from that year remains an example for my classes today. As a sophomore, Nic was the little brother to a room full of seniors in advanced video produc- tion. That year, Nic’s kind and humble nature endeared him to his older peers, allowing him to create and maintain strong rela- tionships based on mutual respect. Having taken both courses of video production, Nic served as a teaching assistant for my sixth period video production course during his junior year. To the benefi t of the students of that class, Nic shared willingly his knowledge and passion for fi lmmaking. And that brings us to Nic’s senior year. He decided to take advanced video pro- duction for a second time, and used the opportunity to hone his screenwriting, cinematography and editing skills to produce his original short feature fi lm Bubble Boy -- the story of a teenage boy struggling to make his way through adolescence. It doesn’t surprise me that Nic was accepted to USC’s School of Cinemat- ic Arts. I am certain he will continue to grow as a fi lmmaker, and some day we will be enjoying his work in a theater near you.
