Circle of Life: Vital Events in Numbers Vital event refers to the live birth, death, fetal death, marriage, divorce, adoption, legitimation, recognition of parenthood, annulment of marriage, or legal separation.
Vital statistics are statistics on live births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages and divorces. The most common way of collecting information on these events is through civil registration, an administrative system used by governments to record vital events which occur in their populations. • The PSA generates important statistics on vital events. • These statistical data will assist the planners, policy makers, program managers and researchers in monitoring, evaluation and development of socio-economic programs. • The compilations of data were based on the registered certificates forwarded by the Local Civil Registry Offices (LCRO) to the Office of the Civil Registrar General (OCRG) through the Provincial Offices of the PSA. • Reports of vital events occurring abroad from Philippine Foreign Service Posts (PFSP) are forwarded to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and subsequently submitted to the PSA.
