MEMBERSHIP SPECIALIST Sheldon Museum of Art University of –Lincoln

The Sheldon Museum of Art seeks a Membership Specialist to play a critical role in raising operating funds and providing community outreach support. This position is responsible for all aspects of managing the Sheldon Art Association (SAA) membership program including: providing excellent customer service; strategic planning and growth; benefits delivery; developing effective communication and marketing strategies; and increasing and improving member renewal, retention, upgrades, and acquisition. The position is responsible for managing the member/donor database, including processing acknowledgements and payments. The Membership Specialist provides critical support to development program activities including for special events, annual campaigns and prospect research, and serves as an administrative liaison to the SAA board of trustees.

Sheldon Museum of Art’s landmark 1963 -designed building houses the collections of the Sheldon Art Association, founded in 1888, and the University of Nebraska. Together the collections comprise more than 12,000 works of art in diverse media with prominent holdings of 19th-century landscape and still life, American impressionism, early , geometric abstraction, abstract expressionism, , photography, and contemporary art. More than thirty of Sheldon’s monumental sculptures are exhibited throughout the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s City and East Campuses, including major works by Gaston Lachaise, and Coosje van Bruggen, Richard Serra, Jesus Moroles, Yinka Shonibare, Michael Heizer, Roxy Paine, and Mark di Suvero. The University of Nebraska–Lincoln, chartered in 1869, is one of the nation’s leading land grant research institutions, and is recognized internationally for a wide array of research projects aimed at broadening knowledge in the sciences and humanities. In 1972, Sheldon Museum of Art was among the earliest institutions to receive accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums, and it was most recently reaccredited in 2012.

Required Qualifications: Associate’s degree in liberal arts, business or related field plus 2 years of relevant experience in fundraising or marketing required; equivalent education/experience considered. Strong analytical and statistical skills necessary. Must possess excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Must be proficient in computer skills to include word processing, spreadsheets, databases and presentation software. Demonstrated ability to think strategically, proactively and creatively essential. Ability to keep a flexible schedule and work with a diverse constituency necessary. Must have the ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with membership database software preferred. Experience working with a nonprofit board desirable.
