Vernacular description should have a translation in Hindi or English. 6 NOT ME BUT THOU NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME UNIT NO.KL.05.001 ALPHONSA COLLEGE PALA 2014-2015 Alphonsa College, Pala, Kottayam District is one of the pioneer institutions for higher education of women in the state of Kerala. It perpetuates the sacred memory of Saint Alphonsa, the contemplative mystic whose saintly life of love and service has always been an inspiration and source of strength for the students of the college. The National Service Scheme is very active in Alphonsa College. We take up regular activities as well as Special Camping Programmes. The important NSS events of the year 2014-2015 are given in brief as follows: June 4th 2014 Preparation of annual plan- On June 4th programme officers Dr.Sr.Minimol Mathew and, Smt Julie J Paramundayil and NSS volunteers of II DC and III DC classes gathered together in room no 7.Progamme officers addressed the volunteers and prepared action plan for the year 2014-2015. Smt.Manju Jose and smt Smitha Clary Joeph the former programme officers promised her whole hearted support to the NSS volunteers. Decision was taken to celebrate the Vannamaholsav week . June 5 th 2014 - World environment day was celebrated by, NSS volunteers in the college by distributing saplings to the Principal, all the department heads, staffs and entire students. Saplings were also planted in the campus by the students. NSS volunteers cleaned the campus and made the campus plastic free.Vanamaholsavam was celebrated by distributing sapling by the NSS volunteers to the neighbouring homes. 05/06/2014- First ResponderCcourse was given to the students in association with Indian Institute of Emergency Medical Service(IIEMS). Mr.Rajasekharan. M and team led the class. 7 13/06 2014- A power point presentation competition was also held for the students on World Environment Day.Theme-Small islands and climate changes. Priya.Alphonsa Mathew of II DC English won the first prize. 14/06/2014 - In Connection with Blood Donation Day our Students Participated Quiz competition & Poster competition conducted at Devamtha college Kuravilangadu.The following students are participated in the competitions. Quiz competition Jissa Joseph II DC Neethu Mohanan III DC Poster Designing Competition .Sruthi PS II DC Bot Keerthana Soman III DC Eng Gopika Mohanan III DC Zoology 16th June 2014- Advisory Board Meeting 19-06-2014-In connection with Blood Donation Day Poster Designing competition conducted for the students of our college . 19-06-2014- In collaboration with Pala Blood Forum ,N.S.S organised a blood Donation camp on the campus.A team from Medical college Kottayam led by Dr.chithra assited the camp. 58 students voluntarily donated blood . 20th June 2014- In connection with reading day two competition were held for the students. Sreena K Kunju II DC Eng In connection with reading day a function was held in the auditorium. Prof S.Joseph an eminent poet(Asst prof.at Maharajas college Ernakulam)was guest of honour at the Reading Day celebration. Prof S.Joseph inspired the youngsters to immense themselves in the world of literature. 22th June 2014 - Programme officers and volunteers visited institutions adopted by the unit. 26/6/2014 - In connection with Anti drug Day the N.S.S unit organised a collage competition for the college students.The prize winners are: I. Keerthana Soman III DC Eng II. Kesia Alice Joseph II DC Eng 15/07/2014 onwards- Making of Vermi compost pit. 16/07/2014 onwards -Making of handicraft carry bags-The students of N.S.S unit of our college made handicraft carry bags as a part of extension activity.The carry bags helps in reducing the use of plastic bags. JULY 22nd to24th-The 3 day mini camp was conducted for NSS volunteers from 22nd July to24th July.It was inaugurated by Dr Sr..minimol Mathew(programme officer) Alphonsa College,Pala. Several classes on relevant topics were held .The students cleaned the college campus.They worked in the vegetable garden of our college .They also cleaned the Botanical garden. 3rd August 2014- welcome to 1 DC .NSS volunteers gathered together and, a warm and cordial welcome was given to 1 DC Students.About 110 students enrolled as NSS volunteers for the year 2014-2015 9 10th August 2014- Advisory Board Meeting-An advisory board meeting was held on 10th august 2014. It was specially convened to discuss about the 7 day special camp. 14th August -2014- In the blood donation drive of J.P.M college of Arts and science,Kattappana 300 N.S.S volunteers of our college volunteered to be blood donors.
