GAME 17 vs. Lethbridge Hurricanes Sunday, April 25, 2021

HITMEN HEADLINES: The Calgary Hitmen (8-6-2-0), riding a season high three-game winning streak, host the Lethbridge Hurricanes (7- 10-2-0) tonight in the finale of their three game weekend set. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at Seven Chiefs Sportsplex on Tsuut’ina Nation. Calgary has grabbed the first by a combined score of 13-5. Last night’s triumph was a 7-2 victory on the road at ENMAX Centre where Sean Tschigerl (3g) and Josh Prokop (1g, 2a) tallied three points each to lead the Calgary scoring parade. For Tschigerl, it was his first career WHL hat-trick while Prokop now has points in all but two games this season. Cael Zimmerman broke a 2-2 tie, triggering a stretch of five unanswered goals by the visitors. Brandon Whynott and Zac Funk added the other Hitmen markers. The Hurricanes, who received their scoring from Liam Kindree and Chase Wheatcroft, outshot the Hitmen 29-27 but goaltender Jack McNaughton made 27 saves to pick up the win.

VS. LETHBRIDGE: Tonight is the sixth and final meeting of the 2021 season between the two teams. The Hitmen have won four straight and have taken four of five overall by a combined score of 25-14. Josh Prokop (4g, 4a) is Calgary’s leading scorer with eight points. Sean Tschigerl (3g, 3a) and Adam Kydd (4g, 2a) are next with six. Alex Cotton (2g, 5a) is the top performer for Lethbridge with seven points.

Riley Fiddler-Schultz (1g, 6a) and Blake Allan (1g, 3a) are riding four-game point streaks. Cael Zimmerman (3g, 2a) and Riley Stotts (1g, 2a) both have points in three straight games. DID YOU KNOW?: The Hitmen scored two shorthanded goals last night in Lethbridge off the sticks of Sean Tschigerl and Josh Prokop 25 seconds apart in the third period. The franchise record for most shorthanded goals in a single game is three, set on two occasions. The last occurred on February 12, 2008 in a 6-1 Hitmen win in Medicine Hat. That night Brock Nixon, T.J. Galiardi and Kyle Bortis all netted shorthanded markers.

ALUMNI WATCH: Carson Focht, who played parts of three seasons with the Hitmen from 2017-20, is in the AHL with the . The 21-year-old forward has seven points (2g, 5a) in 17 games. Focht, a Vancouver Canucks prospect, tallied 137 career points with the Hitmen (65g, 72a) in 161 games. His 65 goals are 19th on the clubs all-time goal scoring list.

NEWS FEED: In light of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic while citing restrictions on travel across both provincial and international borders, the WHL has announced they will not be holding playoffs this season. Earlier this month the Canadian Hockey League also cancelled the 2021 Memorial Cup.

Fort Sask > LET: Hurricanes forwards Noah Boyko, Alex Thacker and Jacob Boucher have all played on the same team – and line – before. The trio played their bantam and midget hockey together for the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers. The three helped the Rangers capture a 2017 AMBHL Championship.

Like Father, Like Son: The Hurricanes have six players on their roster who are sons of former WHL players. Kambeitz (Jim / Dino), Jones (Mitch / Jett), Nash (Tyson / Ty), Thurston (Brent / Trevor), Wheatcroft (Jim / Chase) and Barlage (Mike / Logan).

Second Gen: Hurricanes rookie forward Chase Wheatcroft is the son of former Hurricanes forward Jim Wheatcroft. Jim was an original Hurricane suiting up in 140 regular season games registering 76 points (30g-46a) in the first two season of the ‘Canes existence after relocation from Calgary. Chase was undrafted in the WHL Bantam Draft and listed and signed by the ‘Canes in 2018. Chase and Jim are the second father-son duo to have suited up for the Hurricanes joining Connor and Corey Lyons.

Local Connection: Hurricanes captain Dino Kambeitz, who hails from Parker, Colorado but has family that live in Lethbridge. In fact, Dino’s father Jim who played in the WHL, is from Bow Island which is roughly one- hour from Lethbridge. Dino has grandparents, aunts and uncles that all live in the Lethbridge region.

Jonesy x 2: Hurricanes rookie forward Jett Jones is the cousin of former Hurricanes forward Zane Jones. Zane appeared in 37 games in 2014-2015 registering 30 points (18g-12a) along with 25 penalty minutes. Jett made his WHL debut on January 18th, 2019 in Red Deer. Jett’s father Mitch also played in the WHL.

Nasher: 17-year-old Ty Nash is in his second season with the Hurricanes. The product of Scottsdale, Arizona appeared in 59 games in 2019-2020 where he totaled 15 points (6g-9a) along with 18 penalty minutes.
