This achievement also matched a franchise record for most points in a home opener. According to NHL PR, Greg Adams (4-0-4) and Tony Tanti (0-4-4) originally established the mark over 20 years ago after combining on four of eight Vancouver goals in a win over St. Louis (Oct. 8/87). • Brandon Sutter tied career highs for most goals (2) and points (2-1-3) in a game on Oct. 9/19 vs LA.

YOUNG GUN Quinn Hughes (19 years, 360 days) notched his first NHL goal Oct. 9 vs LA and became the youngest Canucks defenceman to find the back of the net since J.J Daigneault (19 years, 176 days) did so on April 6, 1985 at Los Angeles.

LIGHT THE LAMP The Canucks tied a club record for goals in a home opener with 8 on Oct. 9/19 vs LA (the two previous times were Oct. 8/87 vs STL and Oct. 11/78 vs CLR). According to NHL PR, just three other teams in the last 10 years have scored eight or more goals in their home opener: Chicago (10; Oct. 5, 2017 vs. PIT), Philadelphia (8; Oct. 14, 2017 vs. WSH) and Toronto (8; Oct. 7, 2017 vs. NYR). The last time the Canucks scored 8 goals in a game was Nov. 8/18 vs Boston, which ended in an 8-5 Canucks win.

He is the team’s all-time leader in nearly all major coaching categories, including regular season games coached (540), wins (313), points (683) and points percentage (.632), as well as playoff games coached (68) and wins (33). NOTABLES

Carter Hart became the youngest goaltender in Flyers history to record a shutout, doing so at the age of 21 years, 57 days. He surpasses Dominic Roussel, who shut out Calgary on February 27, 1992 at the age of 22 years, five days.

Kevin Hayes scored his first goal as a Flyer.

Shayne Gostisbehere played in his 300th career game.

The Flyers were 5-for-5 on the penalty kill and held the Devils to four shots on the man advantage.

The Flyers were 41-for-70 (58.6 pct) on faceoffs. Scott Laughton was 9-for-11 (81.8 pct) while Claude Giroux was 9-for-13 (69.2 pct) and Sean Couturier was 12-for-20 (60 pct).

ROAD OPENERS The Flyers are 23-16-12 in their road-opening games. They are 3-0 in their last three road openers and 3-0-1 in the last four, all four of which have opened their season. This is the fourth year in a row that the Flyers have opened their road schedule in the Pacific Division. This is the first time the Flyers have ever opened their road schedule in Vancouver; the Canucks have been in Philadelphia for the home opener on three occasions.

MILESTONE WATCH Elliot – 2 shutouts to reach 40 in the NHL Gostisbehere – plays his 300th NHL/Flyers game tonight; 13 points to reach 200 as a Flyer & in the NHL Hayes – 7 goals to reach 100 in the NHL Provorov – recorded his 100th point as a Flyer/in the NHL on Wednesday vs. NJD

INJURY UPDATE The Flyers started the season with two players on Injured Non-Roster – Nolan Patrick (migraine disorder) and Andy Welinski (lower body).

2019-20 TOTAL MAN-GAMES LOST: 4 2018-19 TOTAL MAN-GAMES LOST: 245

NOTES OF THE NIGHT The Flyers are 2-0 for the 15th time in their history and the first time in eight years, with the last such occasion coming in the 2011-12 season. The Flyers are trying to go to 3-0 for what would be the 12th time in their history and also the first since a 3-0 start in that 2011- 12 season.

In addition to setting the franchise record for youngest goalie to record a shutout, Carter Hart joined a list of just eight to have a shutout in a Flyers uniform before their 23rd birthday; his shutout was only the 10th to fit that category – four of which came in the franchise’s first year. The 10 youngest shutout performances have been covered by eight different goaltenders, as noted below:

GOALIE AGE Y/D SO DATE 1 Carter Hart 21-057 10/9/2019 PHI NJD 2 Dominic Roussel 22-005 2/27/1992 PHI @ CGY 3 Pete Peeters 22-169 2/2/1980 PHI @ PIT 4 Doug Favell 22-195 10/19/1967 PHI PIT 5 Doug Favell 22-245 12/8/1967 PHI @ LAK 6 22-248 1/6/1987 PHI NJD 7 Bernie Parent 22-255 12/16/1967 PHI @ STL 8 Bernie Parent 22-260 12/21/1967 PHI MNS 9 Anthony Stolarz 22-326 12/11/2016 PHI @ DET 10 Brian Boucher 22-350 12/18/1999 PHI TBL

Hart already has appeared in more games under the age of 21 than any other Flyers goalie. He started this season at the age of 21 years, 50 days; every game he plays this season will add to his total games played as the youngest regular goalie in team history. The previous youngest goalie to appear in more than two games for the team was Dominic Roussel, who played 17 games in the 1991-92 season starting at the age of 21 years, 237 days.

Travis Konecny has opened the season with three goals and two assists for five points over the first two games. Konecny is coming off his second straight 24-goal season and had a career-high 25 assists and 49 points last year.

Claude Giroux enters his eighth season as Flyers captain. He has served in the role for 537 games, which is second-most in franchise history to Bob Clarke’s 695. Clarke’s tenure was split into two time periods; he was captain for 542 games from 1972-79 and then relinquished the role to become a playing assistant coach. He reassumed the captaincy for in 1982 and served an additional 153 games until his retirement following the 1984 season. Giroux needs five games to match Clarke’s total from his first stretch as captain. Giroux has appeared in 537 of a possible 541 games since taking over the captaincy in January of 2013 at the start of the shortened 2012-13 season.

Last week’s trip to Europe marked the first games outside of North America in the Flyers’ 52-year history. After this trip is over the Flyers will play their next two games at home, but still have some miles to log in October. The club will play a total of eight of its first 12 games (including Prague) away from the Wells Fargo Center before their first homestand of more than two games, which comes November 2-7.
