THE POSITION The 24-hour homes are temporary homes for children and youth aged 0-11 in need of a safe and nurturing environment. The home(s) provide increased protection and a sense of safety and belonging for children and youth who are no longer in the care of their primary caregivers and or are involved with the Ministry of Social Services. The Child Support Workers are under the direct supervision of the Home Supervisor and will follow the Saskatoon Tribal Council Personnel and Financial Policies and the 24-hour home Operation and Program Guidelines Manual. The successful applicants will work rotating full-time or part-time shifts at the 24-hour homes.

RESPONSIBILITIES A. Direct Services 1. Ensure the best interests of the children / youth is foremost. 2. Collaborate with the Ministry of Social Services in assessing the short term and long term needs of the children and youth. 3. Provide a positive, safe and structured environment. 4. Follow a strict code of confidentiality at all times. 5. Represent STC in a positive manner at all times. 6. Report any suspected abuse to supervisor.

In addition to demonstrating warmth, empathy and sincerity, you must have a genuine passion for working with our children and youth. As a Child Support Worker, you will provide advocacy, support and resources to children/youth that may have involvement with the Ministry of Social Services in the urban centre. You will also demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills in your practice.

B. Daily Tasks 1. Work in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Services to complete the assessment/intake process of each child/youth placed in the 24-hour homes. 2. Ensure all residents needs are met for shelter, food and clothing. 3. Maintain each residents file as outlined in the operational manual and in accordance to case plan. 4. Will be responsible in daily operations and organization of the home. 5. Maintain daily reporting requirements and ensure adherence to the STC Personnel and Financial Policy along with the Operation and Program Guidelines Manuals for each home. 6. Compose, collect and submit weekly/monthly statistical data to Director. 7. Report orally and in writing daily to supervisor. 8. Ensuring the 24-hour home(s) building(s) and vehicles are maintained to code as outlined in Operation and Program Guidelines Manuals. 9. Assist with scheduling of staff and program delivery. 10. Maintain relevant training requirements as specified in this role and be open to any additional workshops or personal development that will enhance the service delivery of STC programs. 11. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  Certificate/ Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education or  Other education in a related Human Services Field with child/youth care experience. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES  Knowledge of holistic model of health and wellness programs (Medicine Wheel Concept).  Ability to build healthy relationships with children, youth and staff.  Demonstrated exceptional leadership, administrative and problem solving skills.  Must have excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.  Ability to work well in a team environment.  Ability to maintain confidentiality.  First Aid and CPR certification.  Knowledge of basic computer skills.  Ability to communicate with children and having an understanding of children in care is an asset.  Ability to deal with emergency situations especially in relation to health and safety.  Knowledge of First Nations and Métis culture and the ability to speak an Aboriginal language will be a definite asset. OTHER CONDITIONS  Fit and healthy and alert at all time with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.  Must possess a valid driver’s license (class 5) and meet STC’s insurance requirements.  Must provide a current, original, Canadian Criminal Record Check (CPIC) with vulnerable sector search as a condition of employment.  MUST BE ABLE TO DO SHIFT (ROTATIONAL) WORK (facility is open 24 hours a day).
