Support Resilient Kids and Strong Community Support ResilientLetter Kidsfrom theand President Strong Community November 2016 Dear Friend of Camp Colley, As the group of kids put on life jackets to go canoeing on the reservoir, one 9 year-old girl hung back, tears streaming down her face. She told a concerned counselor that she was scared to step into the canoe on what looked to her like a massive expanse of water. It was Dasia’s first camping trip. Prior to visiting Camp Colley, an overnight camp in the beautiful Coconino Forest north of Payson that is owned by the City of Phoenix, her world was limited to the Phoenix housing neighborhood in which she lives with her family. She was overwhelmed and uncertain about what might happen. After talking about her fears, Dasia climbed into the canoe alongside a counselor who provided support, encouragement, and safety. When she returned to camp, she talked with enthusiasm about being out on the water. Dasia gained confidence in her ability to try new things and reach for success. For 16 years, Camp Colley has offered opportunities to at-risk kids to take healthy risks, build self-confidence, and experience success. During Camp Season 2016 we served 832 youth, many of whom came from the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department, Housing Department, and Neighborhood Services. Campers also came from Title 1 public elementary schools, UMOM, Camp Audubon Adventures Summer Camp, Native Health, and Special Olympics. Your generous support enables the Camp Colley Foundation to provide transformative experiences to disadvantaged, at-risk youth at Camp Colley. Please help us prepare to welcome deserving kids in the summer of 2017. Flo Eckstein Mamie Coffey President Director of Operations [email protected] [email protected] 216 W. • WNBA Experience Nebraska Is Committed to Helping Players Succeed in Academics, Athletics and in Life
WNBA EXPERIENCE Nebraska is committed to helping players succeed in academics, athletics and in life. Several former Huskers have honed their skills and improved themselves during their time at Nebraska in order to advance to the professional ranks. In 2008, All-Big 12 forward Danielle Page (top) earned a spot on the WNBA's Connecticut Sun. Page helped the Sun earn a spot in the 2008 WNBA Playoffs, despite entering the league as an undrafted practice squad player. Page's unselfishness and team-first attitude made her an important part of the Sun's success. In 2007, three-time first-team All-Big 12 guard Kiera Hardy (bottom) was drafted in the third round by the Connecticut Sun. Hardy did not earn a final roster spot with the Sun, but spent the 2007-08 season playing professionally in Iceland. She also play professionally in Europe in 2008-09, along with Page and former Husker Chelsea Aubry. Aubry has also enjoyed success at the national level, helping the Canadian National Team to trips to the World Championships in 2006 and 2010. The trio will be joined in Europe by two-time WNBA All-Star Anna DeForge. The former Husker has enjoyed a long professional career since earning All-America honors at Nebraska in 1998. DeForge spent the 2008 WNBA season with the Minnesota Lynx and played for the Detroit Shock in 2009. • Phoenix-Suns
City of Phoenix OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER Jason Rowley February 2, 2021 President & CEO Phoenix Suns - Phoenix Suns Arena - Phoenix Mercury - NAZ Suns Dear Mr. Rowley, The Special Events Committee has thoroughly evaluated your application to allow a limited number of fans to return to PHX Arena. We looked at all of the protocols that you proposed to ensure the safety of employees, attendees and the community-at-large. At the time of this letter only nine NBA teams have allowed limited attendance. The committee applauds your commitment to the protocols established by the NBA and the deliberate approach the Suns have taken as the NBA season has started. These protocols include: • Fans will not be allowed to sit courtside at games and must be at least 15 feet behind either team bench or 10 feet from the sideline; • All fans must fill out a questionnaire about their health status and must wear a mask unless eating or drinking; • Fans with tickets within 30 feet of the court must also return a negative COVID- 19 test within 48 hours prior to tipoffor pass an NBA-approved test on the day of the game. These same fans will not be allowed to eat or drink at their seat. The past year has been extremely difficult for our country, state, and city. I know we all collectively hope that the coming months will bring significant improvement and a return to normal. We are currently monitoring closely the COVID-19 metrics forour community. We must ensure that we don't inadvertently exacerbate existing conditions in how we re-open.

  • Arizona's Spectacular Sports
Arizona’s Spectacular Sports From football to auto racing, Arizona is a sports playground Looking for a sports lover’s dream? You’d be hard-pressed to find a better location than Arizona, regular-season home to four major league teams, Spring Training baseball, record-breaking professional golf tournaments, three college football bowl games, four major NCAA universities, the 2015 Super Bowl, the 2015 NFL Pro Bowl, the 2016 College Football Playoff Championship Game and the 2017 NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four. Arizona continues to prove itself as a sports destination and has been named as the chosen location for the 2023 Super Bowl and the 2024 Final Four. The Big Four When the Arizona Diamondbacks arrived on the scene in 1998, Phoenix joined the exclusive club of U.S. metropolitan areas with professional baseball, basketball, football and hockey franchises. Currently, there are just 13 such communities in America that can make that claim. Baseball Arizona fans fell in love with the National League’s Arizona Diamondbacks right off the bat, and the team’s 2001 World Series win over the New York Yankees still ranks as the most significant professional sports victory in state history. The D-backs’ downtown Phoenix stadium, Chase Field, has become a visitor attraction in itself. Basketball Arizona’s original major league franchise, the Phoenix Suns, started playing in the NBA in 1969 at Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Today, the Suns play at Talking Stick Sports Arena in downtown Phoenix. Football The nation's oldest continuously run NFL franchise (it got its start in 1898 as Morgan Athletic Club in Chicago) – the Arizona Cardinals began playing in Glendale’s State Farm Stadium, (formerly University of Phoenix Stadium) in 2006 after playing for nearly 20 years at Arizona State University’s Sun Devil Stadium when the franchise relocated from St.
