Theology for the Church and City CTK Leadership Training January 24, 2017

Purpose

The purpose of this course at Christ the King is discipleship and spiritual formation for those who have been nominated to serve as officers of the church or those who have been recognized or who desire to lead in other capacities in the church. Seminarians pursuing mentored ministry are likewise encouraged to attend. While the training is primarily focused on those who aspire to leadership, it is open to all.

Structure

• 6 units, approximately every six weeks (January – September, with a break in June and July). • The teaching at network meetings can be shared across network pastors; congregation-specific meetings can be led by the pastor but are a great opportunity for teaching from other lay leaders (elders, deacons, community group leaders, etc.). • Prayer is expected to be a central component of leadership training. Each meeting will begin with prayer, and the congregation-specific meetings will include more extended periods of prayer and teaching about prayer. Every attendee should have an existing officer or congregational pastor deliberately, specifically praying for them over the course of the training. • Fellowship and mentoring are likewise expected to be a component of the training. Each congregation should seek to gather those who attend the training for a social gathering every other month or so, and the whole group should get together socially twice during the year. In addition, each officer candidate will be paired with an existing officer or pastor, who will get together in person or, at least, on the phone, once a month for one-on-one discussion, counseling, and prayer. • As part of their training, officer candidates who are not already doing so will be expected to serve in some ministry of the church, which should be mutually determined by the candidate, the mentor, and the congregation pastor. • The training should include visits to other congregations within the CTK network. Visits will be required for candidates for elder, as will at least one visit to a session meeting prior to completing the training.
