I. III. Background of the Headquarters Redevelopment Project The HKRC Headquarters in Admiralty had been in use since 1965. With the rapid expansion of HKRC services in recent years in response to society changes and rising diverse needs, and to match Government’s land use planning for the Admiralty headquarters site, the HKRC Headquarters confirmed to be relocated to Hoi Ting Road, West Kowloon in 2010.

IV. About the Admiralty Headquarters The 3-storey HKRC Headquarters, located in 33 , Admiralty, commenced operation in 1965, which was the tallest building in the district at that time. In early years, the headquarters of blood donation and the blood bank were on the ground floor, they were relocated to King’s Park Rise, Kowloon later on. Having weathered numerous historical changes, the HKRC Headquarters played an important role in humanitarian work in major incidents. For example, in the Sichuan Earthquake

2008, the Headquarters served as the disaster relief operation centre, in which we set up hotline centre and provided backend support.

V. Facilities West Kowloon Donor Centre

• The biggest donor centre with Apheresis donation services in Hong Kong. Upon its full operation, the centre will be equipped with 16 Apheresis and 8 whole blood donation beds.

• It is forecast that the number of blood collection is 13,000 units and will have year-on-year increase. In 2019, it is estimated that 31,200 donors will give blood at the centre for production of 75,200 units of blood products. Over 42,000 patients will be benefitted.

Humanitarian Education Centre

• Creates a unique approach of humanitarian education for the public, students, and humanitarian workers.

• Provides exploration and simulated humanitarian activities for visitors to experience human sufferings brought by armed conflicts and natural disasters, and to stimulate thinking on the importance of humanitarian assistance and support from the community.

Youth Life-wide Education Centre

• Flexibility and diversity are the design basis for the Youth Life-wide Education Centre. As the core base for youth leadership development, the centre offers the perfect venue for innovative youth activities.

• Working to compile the need for youth development and education, the centre is the hub for information of International Red Cross Movement, and encourages further cooperation and exchange opportunities.

Volunteer Development and Activities Centre

• HKRC now has over 20,400 volunteers. In 2014, they provided a total of over 510,000 service hours.

• The new centre provides resources and working base for HKRC volunteers in providing humanitarian services. It aims to encourage and support volunteers to initiate and plan for various types of services for the community and those in need.

Red Cross Youth West Kowloon Divisional Headquarters

• At present, 51 secondary and 19 primary schools in West Kowloon hold Red Cross Youth uniformed units, with approximately 3,400 members. These units are characterized by group life, skills training and voluntary services for members’ personal development. The new West

Kowloon Divisional Headquarters offers a more convenient venue for trainings and activities with plenty of resource supports.

First Aid and Health Training Centre

• HKRC organizes over 2,100 first aid and health training courses for members of the public, para- medical personnel and HKRC members each year. The Centre equips with training rooms and simulated ward of greater capacity, offering a better environment for teaching and practices.

• To further promote “First Aid for All” so as to equip everyone with first aid knowledge; to further develop different kind of health trainings for care givers and medical trainees to cope with the needs of our aging society.

Handling Centre for Overseas Disaster Relief Materials/ Training Base for Overseas Medical Relief Service/ Overseas Disaster Relief Operation Centre

• The Centres provide storage and training facilities in preparation for overseas disasters, as well as enhance our efficiency in coordinating overseas disaster relief operations.

Handling Centre for Local Disaster Relief Materials/ Psychological Support Service Hotline Centre

• The Centres provide backend support at times of emergency or disaster, such as relief materials distribution and psychological support hotline service.

Jockey Club Convention Hall (402 seats) / Offices / Function Rooms / Training Rooms • Variety of venues for organizing different activities for the members of the public.
