My simple brown and orange painting of pilgrims and Indians was created from tempera paints dabbed out of recycled milk cartons. And that painting was selected to hang in the school art gallery. I was hooked! Since then I have been a chemical engineer and a chemistry and environmental science teacher. I am a daughter, a mother and a grandmother. I am a widow. I am a cancer patient. I’ve lost a child. And I am an artist. I gather much of my inspiration from personal experiences, the environment, and my travels around the world. I am passionate about global warming and wildlife. I have been inspired by the strong women in my family and by the tragedies that I have survived. These themes, particularly the environment and the strength of women, make regular appearances in my work. I am inspired by ancient Roman pottery that tells a story around the surface of a vessel. My pieces embody some of my own life stories, and those things I see in the world that fire a passion in my soul. RESUME: I always wanted to be an artist, but was strongly discouraged. So my path here was long and circuitous. I studied chemical engineering at Lehigh University. While working on my engineering degree, I took studio art classes to fulfill all of my humanities requirements including drawing, 2- and 3-dimensional design, and life drawing. I worked as an engineer for 20 years while taking ceramic and painting classes in private studios. I then went on to get my master’s degree in education from Kutztown University and to study special education at Cedar Crest College. I taught high school chemistry and environmental science, and also taught college chemistry to nursing students. After ten years, I was forced to retire early while being treated for cancer. Since then, I studied pottery and ceramics at a local studio. Three years ago, I joined a pottery co- op and have focused on developing my art as a ceramic artist and painter. Current Affiliations: I am currently affiliated with Clay On Main in Oley, Pa, the Berks County Art Association and the Chester County Art Association. I have exhibited at Clay On Main, GoggleWorks in Reading, Pa, the CCAA Gallery in Exton, Pa, Studio B in Boyertown, and the Yocum Institute in Wyomissing, Pa. The rhythm and repetition of piecing fabric, cutting it into new configurations and rejoining them--without ruler or measurement--create vigorous, abstract structures. Bold color and value choices further propel the musicality of these compositions. The works are densely quilted, flattening the images into dynamic fabric paintings. Broyles Special Activities and Innovation Operations Evaluation Group Copyright © 2017 CNA Abstract The military is on the cusp of a major technological revolution, in which warfare is conducted by unmanned and increasingly autonomous weapon systems. However, unlike the last “sea change,” during the Cold War, when advanced technologies were developed primarily by the Department of Defense (DoD), the key technology enablers today are being developed mostly in the commercial world. This study looks at the state-of-the-art of AI, machine-learning, and robot technologies, and their potential future military implications for autonomous (and semi-autonomous) weapon systems. While no one can predict how AI will evolve or predict its impact on the development of military autonomous systems, it is possible to anticipate many of the conceptual, technical, and operational challenges that DoD will face as it increasingly turns to AI-based technologies.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Natural Materials Pancho Jiménez Nnenna Okore Cameron Welch April 10 – May 8, 2021 #naturalmaterialsexhibition #jenkinsjohsongallery #minnesotastreetproject @pancho_jimenez @nnennaokore @welch_cameron @jenkinsjohnsongallery @ minnesotastreetproject Cameron Welch, Hot Head, 2021, marble, glass, ceramic, oil, acrylic and spray enamel on panel in artist frame, 47.5 x 37.5 in. Jenkin Johnson Gallery, San Francisco, is pleased to present Natural Materials, a group exhibition featuring new works by Pancho Jiménez, Nnenna Okore and Cameron Welch. This exhibition explores three artists’ use of natural material and found objects in their practice. Each artist approaches materials differently creating a captivating discussion on materiality, texture, and shape. Jiménez rebuilds and recontextualizes found trinkets and objects. Okore weaves fibers and found material to create ethereal sculptures. Welch adds a contemporary perspective to traditional mosaic techniques with motifs and imagery found throughout history. Natural Materials opens Saturday, April 10, 2021 and will be on view through Saturday, May 8. The exhibition is by appointment only. Please visit our website to schedule a viewing. www.jenkinsjohnsongallery.com. Francisco (Pancho) Jiménez (lives and works in Santa Clara, CA) explores the elusiveness of dreams and memory. Joining together molded forms in unlikely combinations, Jiménez transforms kitsch elements into complex pieces with a rich and relevant focus. The juxtaposition of shapes in his sculptures may at first seem haphazard, but is intentionally crafted to mimic the illusiveness of memory as it advances and recedes over time. Jiménez holds an M.F.A. in Sculptural Ceramics from San Francisco State University, and his BA degree from Santa Clara University. He has exhibited extensively in the San Francisco Bay Area and nationally at universities, private galleries and civic spaces.

Henry Chapman Mercer Fact Sheet Henry Chapman Mercer (1856-1930) a noted tile-maker, archaeologist, antiquarian, artist and writer, was a leader in the turn-of-the-century Arts and Crafts Movement. ● Henry Chapman Mercer was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania in 1856 and died at his home, Fonthill, in Doylestown in 1930. ● After graduating from Harvard in 1879, he was one of the founding members of The Bucks County Historical Society in 1880. ● He studied law at The University of Pennsylvania and was admitted to the Philadelphia bar. Mercer never practiced law but turned his interests towards a career in pre-historic archaeology. ● From 1894 to 1897, Mercer was Curator of American and Pre-historic Archaeology at The University of Pennsylvania Museum, Philadelphia. ● As an archaeologist, he conducted site excavations in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico, and in the Ohio, Delaware, and Tennessee River valleys. ● In 1897, Mercer became interested in and began collecting "above ground" archaeological evidence of pre-industrial America. ● In searching out old Pennsylvania German pottery for his collection, Mercer developed a keen interest in the craft. By 1899 he was producing architectural tiles that became world famous. ● At fifty-two Mercer began building the first of three concrete structures: Fonthill, 1908-10, his home; the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works, 1910-12, his tile factory; and The Mercer Museum, 1913-16, which housed his collection of early American artifacts. ● Mercer authored Ancient Carpenters Tools and The Bible In Iron. ● Fond of animals and birds, Mercer developed a large arboretum with plants native to Pennsylvania on the grounds of Fonthill.
