CELEBRATING THE PAST

The Foundling Museum celebrates the pioneering work of Captain Thomas Coram who, by his determination and charitable efforts, established The Foundling in 1739. This was the first institution in Britain for the maintenance and education of abandoned babies. Many eminent figures of the 18th century, including the artist and the composer , were early supporters of the . The Museum tells the story of this unique institution through the remarkable collections of art, music and social history. The Friends of Thomas Coram support the Foundling Museum by publicising cultural and social events, promoting its educational programmes and encouraging the recruitment of volunteers to help in the work of the museum. By being a Friend you can help to secure this nationally important collection of works of art for the future.
