PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Western Illinois University, Dean, College of Fine Arts and Communication (July 2004 – present)

WIU is a master’s comprehensive institution that holds high rankings in US News and World Report, Forbes, and Princeton Review. The university currently enrolls over 12,000 students on two campuses. The College of Fine Arts and Communication is comprised of six academic departments/schools (Art, Broadcasting, Communication, Communication Sciences & Disorders, Music, and Theatre & Dance) and four academic support and outreach units (Bureau of Cultural Affairs, Tri States Public Radio,Kreider Performing Arts Society, and University Television). The college offers comprehensive majors in each academic unit and several interdisciplinary minors. There are several options for graduate study at the master’s level: the MA in Communication; the MS in Speech Pathology; an MM in Music Conducting, Music Performance, Music History, Music Composition, or Jazz; and MFAs in Acting, Directing or Theatrical Design. I am tenured in the School of Music at the rank of Professor.

Northern Kentucky University, Chair, Department of Music (July 2002 – June 2004) Northern Kentucky University is an urban commuter campus located 7 miles from downtown Cincinnati. It is a master comprehensive institution of more than 18,000 students. The department of music offers degrees in performance, composition and music education. The department also supports the program housed in the theatre department. I was tenured and appointed Professor upon appointment.

University of Nevada - Las Vegas, Associate Dean, College of Fine Arts (July 2001 – July 2002) UNLV is a doctoral intensive university enrolling 20,000 students in 2002. The College of Fine Arts enrolled 1200 students during my last year of employment. I was charged with overseeing college

Paul K. Kreider, Page 2 8/28/2010 facilities, adjunct faculty and part-time instruction, student advising and complaints, special projects, and daily signature authority.

University of Nevada - Las Vegas, Chair, Department of Music (July 1995 – 2001) As chair of the Department of Music I facilitated growth of the faculty from 15 to 26 members. The adjunct faculty grew as well and I was able to negotiate salary increases for adjunct faculty. I oversaw the development of several degree programs at all levels, including the Doctor of Musical Arts curriculum, which I co-authored and shepherded through the approval processes. During my tenure the department had over 300 undergraduate majors and 80 graduate majors. I was promoted and awarded tenure in 1998.

University of Nevada - Las Vegas, Assistant Chair, Department of Music (October 1994 - July 1995) As assistant chair I oversaw the faculty committees, scholarships and daily operations.

University of Nevada - Las Vegas, Coordinator of Vocal Studies, Department of Music (1992- 1995) As coordinator of the vocal area I was responsible for all advising of vocal majors, student recruitment, curriculum and operations, adjunct faculty loads and reporting. When hired there were 19 vocal majors in the program, all at the undergraduate level. Within one year, the program grew to 67 majors, 9 of whom were graduate students.

University of Nevada - Las Vegas, Director of Theater (1992—1997) While coordinating the vocal area I also directed the opera program and was responsible for opera workshop and opera production. I directed one opera each semester and oversaw and engaged designers for all production aspects of set design, costume design, and lighting design.

West Chester University (Spring 1992) West Chester University is a regional liberal arts school, which boasts a large music education program. It is located 30 miles west of Philadelphia and is predominantly a commuter campus. Deciding to transition from a professional performance career to an academic career, I accepted a one-year sabbatical replacement position teaching applied voice, class voice and assisting with music education advising.
