Research in our laboratory focuses on analytical food safety, environmental analysis and bioanalysis. In analytical food safety, we engage in the development of novel functional materials, reagents and fast detection techniques for food safety study. In environmental analysis, we aim to develop novel materials and hybrid techniques for speciation analysis of trace elements, on-line sample pretreatment techniques coupled with atomic (mass) spectrometry and chromatography, and green methodologies of sample preparation for the analysis of persistent toxic substances (PTS). In bioanalysis, we concentrate on the development of novel techniques to study metal species-biomolecule interactions and metallomics, the design and synthesis of novel probes for selective biosensing and bioimaging of biologically important targets.
