Gene Smith Senior Vice President and Wolfe Foundation Endowed Athletics Director HEAD COACH RYAN DAY 7 Ryan Day is in his second full season as head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes. He enters the 2020 campaign with a career record of 16-1, a 10-0 mark in Big Ten Conference games, a Big Ten championship (2019) and College Football Playoff appearance (2019). Day is the first Ohio State coach in 40 years to be named Big Ten Conference Coach of the Year, and he earned the honor in 2019 by coaching, developing and leading one of the best teams ever in school history. His 2019 Buckeyes were dominant, winning 13 consecutive games by an average of over 36 points per game. The team ranked in the Top 5 of 12 major NCAA statistical categories, including No. 1 in total defense, No. 1 in pass defense and pass efficiency defense, No. 1 in QUICK FACTS offensive third down pct. and No. 4 in total offense. Hometown: Manchester, N.H. The 2019 Buckeyes became the first Big Ten team ever to win three High School: Manchester Central consecutive outright Big Ten titles and the team advanced to the College Age: 41 Football Playoffs for the third time in the six-year playoff history. PCT. SINCE 2017 Ryan Day has directed one of the nation’s most explosive offenses through the air in the three seasons since his arrival in 2017. Under his tutelage, the offenses - led by quarterbacks J.T. Barrett, Dwayne Haskins and Justin Fields - rank No. 1 nationally in touchdown passes thrown with 138. Ohio State’s 67.8 completion percentage is third-best nationally and its 296.7 yards per game ranks No. 11. EIGHT CHAMPIONSHIPS IN LAST THREE SEASONS In Day’s three seasons, Ohio State has won eight championships: three straight Big Ten championships; three Big Ten East Division titles; the 2018 Cotton Bowl and 2019 Rose Bowl. TOUCHDOWN, BUCKEYES! Over the past three seasons, Ohio State has scored 234 offensive touchdowns - second most in the country - and averaged 43.5 points per game, which ranks No. 3 nationally. It’s also nearly seven points better than the next highest-ranking Big Ten team. first 2,000-yard running back in school history (J.K. Dobbins), two Heisman Trophy finalists (Fields and Chase Young) – only the sixth time this has been accomplished – and four first- team All-Americans (Wyatt Davis, Dobbins, Jeff Okudah and Young). He was considered for virtually every national coach of the year honor and was named the first-year Coach of the Year by the Football Writers Association of America. Day’s Impact The impact Day has had on the program in such a short time has been considerable. No team has more passing touchdowns the past three seasons than the 138 that Ohio State quarterbacks have thrown in that time. Ohio State also ranks 11th over the past three seasons in passing yards per game (296.7) and third in completion percentage (67.8). Ohio State is 38-4 and has won eight championships in Day’s three years with the program: three consecutive Big Ten Conference championships; three Big Ten East Division titles; the 2018 Cotton Bowl and 2019 Rose Bowl. In 2018 Ohio State ranked second nationally in total offense and passing yards, and eighth in scoring.
