UPES has seen a steady growth and is now the destination campus of choice for students and their parents. This year UPES has taken further initiatives towards curricular, extra-curricular activities as well as the academia-industry interface. UPES organised the 16th Annual Convocation at the Energy Acres campus in Dehradun on 24th November 2018 with the Uttarakhand Governor Hon'ble Baby Rani Maurya as the Chief Guest. 3609 students from 72 diverse programs were conferred with their degrees on the occasion. UPES continued to receive awards for excellence this year as well. This included 'India's Best University for Innovation & Value based Education' award at the India's Quality Education Awards held in the Progressive India Conclave 2018, UPES won the 'Best Industry - Academia Interface' award at the 12th edition of World Education Summit held in August 2018, Worldwide Achievers Award for being the “University with best Industry Academic Partnership” At World Education Summit and Awards 2018 to name a few. We take pride in welcoming our new Vice Chancellor Dr. Deependra Jha who brought with him a vast experience in research, teaching and academic administration. Dr. Jha has pursued the philosophy of outcome-based education and accreditation throughout his career so far. Other key initiatives included our transition to 5 Schools operating under the guidance of Deans which includes – School of Engineering, School of Computer Science, School of Design, School of Business and School of Law. Recognising UPES' commitment towards delivering industry aligned programs, several organisations of national and international repute have pledged to invest knowledge resources in the university. We continue to strengthen our collaboration with the industry and the latest addition are our collaborations with Bombay Stock Exchange, Tata Power, Infosys, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and Power Sector Skill Council. These strategic alliances help us to co-design, co-brand and co-deliver some of our programs, besides exploring opportunities for student and faculty internship. As a further fillip to our Industry – Academia interface, UPES continued to organize Round Table Conferences for many sectors such as Law, Business Analytics, Oil & Gas, HR, Power etc. to discuss pertinent issues and augment industry/academia interaction. Through Project “Abhigyat”, a unique and novel initiative for faculty to gain insights and skills through Industry exposure to enrich classroom teachings, about 100 faculty members spent time at various industries and other organizations this year. As part of our Faculty Development & Research initiatives, UPES organized various national and international Seminars/Conferences. Some of these include International Conference on Next Generation Computing Technologies, International Conference on Management of Infrastructure, International Seminar on Latest Developments in Corporate Legal Affairs to highlight a few. UPES would like to express its gratitude to the Governor of Uttarakhand, Hon'ble Baby Rani Maurya, the Visitor to the University and the distinguished Members of our Boards for their continued guidance and support. We also appreciate the continued support of the Government of Uttarakhand. We assure all our stakeholders our deep commitment to develop UPES as a world class institution. Dr. S. J. Krishnan President I am glad to present the Second Annual Report of the News Broadcasters Association, outlining the key initiatives we have accomplished in the past year. The Board’s vision of self-regulation by a “jury of peers” for content matters translated into a reality when the nine member News Broadcasting Standards Authority chaired by Justice (Retd) J. S. Verma, former Chief Justice of India and former Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission became operational from October 2, 2008. The Authority has been meeting regularly. Besides looking into viewer complaints, the Authority has also taken initiatives for improving broadcasting standards. It has in consultation with the Editors laid down “Guidelines for telecast of news during emergency situations” and “Specifi c guidelines for reportage” for journalists to follow.

India is known for having a vast culture. Being a country with so many religions, the Indians never leave a chance to celebrate the festivals. From the entire nation watching the moon shine through clouds on Eid; to playing dandiya in colourful bright clothes during the nine days of Navratri; we celebrate each one with true hearts and wide smiles, forgetting about every tension, removing all the boundaries we carry. Despite the cultural differences we carry, we never miss a chance to celebrate. SymFiesta'20 celebrates such festivity this time.
