ALPHA SIGMA CHAPTER The Kappa Alpha Order was founded in 1865 at Washington and Lee University, at the time when General Robert E. Lee was president of this school. Using the great southern heros life as a guiding light of their own, the men of Kappa Alpha have made it one of the leading national fraternities. The seventy-seventh active chapter was added this past fall to the "Grand Old Gang," which extends from coast to coast across the central and southern portions of our country. Alpha Sigma is now in its fifty-fourth year on the Tech campus, and its present membership has upheld the tradition of active participation in social and campus activities. But Kappa Alpha places emphasis on scholarship as well as "campusology" and strives to maintain its usual position above the all-school average. The past year was highlighted by an "Old South Ball." held in the spring, the Christmas party, the Convivium, which is a celebration of Robert E. Lees birthday, the spring house party and the winter formal.

With a total of 126 active chapters in the united States, Canada, and Hawaii, Kappa Sigma is known and represented on every part of the continent. The Alpha Tau chapter of Kappa Sigma had its beginning here at Georgia Tech in 1895. It is the third oldest fraternity on the campus. The chapter has now been in its new, seventy-five thousand dollar house for two years. With its annual Black and White formal. house party outings, house dances, and rush parties, Alpha Tau chapter is definitely a leader in the social phase of life at Tech. On the other hand, scholarship, leadership. and sportsmanship all receive a great deal of attention from the brothers. The frater- nity is always well represented in the many honorary societies on the campus and has long been a leader in the intramural sports

Now it has matured into one of the largest social fraternities in America. It boasts a total of one hundred and forty-four chap- ters and three colonies in forty-three states and three provinces of Canada. Although one of the youngest of national fraternities, Lambda Chi Alpha is already rich in tradition. The Beta Kappa Chapter was established at Tech on October 6, 1942, after its h o norable and enviable record during its affiliation with the old Beta Kappa National Fraternity. Some of the chief assets of Lambda Chi Alpha are its spirited and aggressive leaders, its proud traditions, and the true brotherhood within the chapter. Men of Beta Kappa Chapter will be found in scholastic and honor societies, student government, school athletics and publications. and many other campus activities at Georgia Tech. With a highly successful rush season and many interesting parties and dances, Beta Kappa has enjoyed a very successful year.

Anyone care for more? Founded1848in at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Phi Delta Theta has grown into an interna- tional fraternity with over 80,000 members in 115 chapters located throughout the United States, Nova Scotia. and Canada. Besides leading all other fraternities by having the most members selected as Rhodes scholars and All-American foot- ball players, Phi Delta Theta has prominent mem- bers in every field of endeavor, including the presidency of the United States. The Georgia Tech chapter, Georgia Delta, found- ed on June 4, 1902, has constantly strived to uphold the principles upon which Phi Delta Theta was founded. As in the past Georgia Delta was repre- sented in campus organizations, honorary societies, student government, varsity athletics and publica- tions. The social life was upheld by the house parties, dances and numerous parties held during the year. Again, Georgia Delta enjoyed a successful year on the Georgia Tech campus.

Phi Kappa Sigma was founded at the University of Pennsylvania on October 19, 1850. The Alpha Nu Chapter at Georgia Tech was established in 1904 and was one of the first fraternities on the campus to own its house. It is the policy of the fraternity to be conservative in expansion, and there are now forty-four chapters in the leading colleges and universities throughout the United States and Canada. Although Phi Kappa Sigma maintains a relatively small chapter at Tech, one can always find a Phi Kap in the midst of any worthwhile activity. KAPPA DEUTERON CHAPTER Phi Sigma Kappa was founded in 1873 at the University ofMassachusetts. It attracted as its first students men of the pioneer spirit and of high purpose. From such a group was Phi Sigma Kappa organized. The growth of Phi Sigma Kappa has been conserva- tive. From an unpretentious beginning it has expanded to 66 chapters. More than 27,000 students have been enrolled as members. Kappa Deuteron Chapter was founded March 15, 1923 at Georgia Tech. It was an outgrowth of a local frater- nity named Delta Sigma Kappa which was organized by a group of men who were living together in a boarding- house. Inasmuch as our chapter at Georgia Tech is one of the smallest on the campus, we have formed a very close knit organization. We feel that in order to have the intimate feeling of brotherhood which is necessary to successful fraternity life, we must keep our number small. For the academic year 1952-53 Kappa Deuteron Chapter not only led the field in scholarship for each quarter, but we also had the highest fraternity point to successful fraternity life, we must keep our number average on the campus for the year. The men in Phi Si gma Kappa are active in many other organizations. The past year has been a very successful one for our chapter. Some of the activities that we held during the year were a testimonial dinner, House party, and our annual bad luck party on a Friday the 13th.

With its more than one hundred ten chapters, it is one of the largest fraternities in the United States in both membership and chapters. PiKA is established solidly in brotherhood at America's finest colleges and universities. Pikes pride themselves with their many prominent members during the past and the present. The Alpha Delta Chapter was founded in 1904 here at Georgia Tech, and has since planted its banner solidly. This year we celebrated our 50th year on the Tech campus. The Chapter owns its house on Techwood Drive where home life and recreation are provided for its members. Pi Kappa Alpha encourages academic achievement and campus activity and is justly proud of the record of its members. The Pike house is the scene of many colorful parties the year round. During the latter part of the nineteenth century, it rapidly expanded to national scale and was recognized throughout the country as a group of ma- ture college men with high ideals and a deep sense of honor. Now Sigma Nu has grown to a total of 106 chapters through- out the nation with every major college represented. The heart of our fraternity is fellowship, the congenial com- panionship of men with mutual interests and ideals. Through this fellowship we strive to create better men and better citizens. The chapter at Georgia Tech was founded in 1896 and has functioned as an integral part of the school ever since. It is active in all phases of college life and each member feels a deep sense of responsibility toward their chapter and their school. Nearly all campus organizations are represented in the chap- ter and as a result, Sigma Nu at Tech has played a leading role in all developments and activities on the campus. The chapter tries to keep its enrollment within certain limits so as to have complete fellowship among all the brothers and to insure a tightly handed group of men united in common interests and ideals. Every member in the Gamma Alpha Chapter of Sigma Nu here at Tech strives to maintain its high level of fraternal spirit and is proud to call himself a Sigma Nu. We need pledges, girls.

Georgia Alpha Chapter was chartered on the Georgia Tech campus on April 1, 1907. Sig-Ep has grown in the last fifty-two years to become one of the largest national college fraternities in America. Over 42,000 members in 123 chapters throughout the country have made the fraternity what it is today. The aims of Sigma Phi Epsilon are to grow in strength and to build character and leadership in all its members. The outstanding social events of the year are the "Sig-Ep Golden heart Formal" and a weekend house party in the spring. Hayrides, house dances, costume parties, and the pledge party given to the active chapter by the pledges just before the Christmas holidays round out the social calendar. Scholarship, as well as participation in sports and campus organi- zations, is stressed at the SPE house.

PHI CHAPTER

The Phi chapter of the Tau Epsilon Phi fraterni- ty was established on the Georgia Tech campus in 1922. and since its inception has been one of the leading fraternities on the campus.

The boys are not only first rate atheletes, but first rate in all campus activities. During the past school year the boys have brought their fraterni- ty into the finals of the intramural sports com- petitions, and have placed first in heir classifica- tion in the Red Cross blood drive and the Old Newsboys' campaign.

In addition to this great fraternity spirit, the boys also have wonderful school spirit. Tau Ep- silon Phi is proud to number among its members leaders in Tau Beta Pi and Phi Eta Sigma.

The brothers are also active in the Bulld og Club and in the Pershing Rifles, Air Force Drill Team, Drama Tech, and Alpha Chi Omega. The fraternity is well represented in the professional societies on the campus; among these, Delta Kap- pa Phi, Phi Psi, the American Ceramic Society, and the Architectural Society. Members are also to be found on the staffs of the Yellow Jacket and the Technique, and also on the cross country and gym teams.

"Tep" can certainly be classed as one of the all-around fraternities on the Georgia Tech cam- pus.

BETA ALPHA CHAPTER Theta Xi was founded on April 29, 1864, al Rensselear Poly- technic Institute in Troy, New York. There are at present fifty- two active chapters and three colonies encompassing thirty- eight states, all of which shows the conservative and well or- ganized growth of Theta Xi. Beta Alpha of Theta Xi was established on the Georgia Tech campus in the fall of 1947. The charter was granted to Beta Alpha on January 27, 1951. Since our installation we have been striving always to maintain the high standards set for us by our founders eighty-nine years ago. Socials are held when they do not interfere with the school activities, but yet, often enough to relieve the strain of college studies. Theta Xi has intramural championships in softball, football, basketball, and volleyball. The climax of the year for us is playing Santa Claus for the unfortunate children of this area.

Mappin Morgan Mullins Oliver Rosende Safar Soranno Tavenner Wallace The letters, ISO, stand for Independent Student Organization. The ISO is a member organization of the NISA, National Independent Student Association. This group was formed on the Tech campus in the early part of 1948. It is an inexpensive organization that sponsors social activities and intramural sports, open to everyone who is not a member of any social fraternity. This organization is devoted to helping its members to become well rounded in their college life.
