A yeAr of books by QueenslAnd writers 2012 BOOKS FROM OUR BACKYARD 2012 Queensland Writers Centre (QWC) invites you to curl up with a good book by a Queensland Author. At QWC, we strive to enable more Australian writers to have sustainable careers, and to be read and enjoyed throughout the world. Our free, annual catalogue Books from our Backyard is one of the many ways in which we work towards achieving this goal. QWC is thrilled to give you Books from our Backyard 2012, which contains 178 books published by Queensland authors in 2012, across a variety of categories and genres. In conjunction with this initiative, we produce stickers that bookshops and libraries may put on books to help promote Queensland Authors, and create an exhibition of the books each year at the State Library of Queensland. Arts Queensland’s Map of the Writing Sector notes that “Queensland is Australia’s most decentralised state…, and so geographical diversity also has a strong influence on our cultural landscape.” The unique voices arising from the many and varied regions of Queensland – from the Cape to the border, from the coast to the bush – make a vital contribution to Australian literature. As Chair of QWC, I encourage you to browse this catalogue of stories emanating from this great state, and keep an eye out for the Queensland Author sticker at your local library or bookshop.
