Cippenham Primary school led by Miss Housden, the school’s Dance teacher, took 20 children to Wimbledon New Theatre to compete in the London and South East heat of the Great Big Dance Off competition. This is the second year the school have entered the competition, and last year were awarded 4th place nationally in the final with their Alice in Wonderland inspired dance. This year, The Cippenham Dancers performed a dance called the magic music box, inspired by The Nutcracker Ballet. The group, made up of boys and girls in years 4,5, and 6 worked hard in their lunch-hour to learn the choreography for the dance consisting of a variety of styles including ballet, street, jazz and swing. There were 23 schools competing in the heat on the day and only the winner and three runners up could go through to the final. The group performed superbly well, and obviously impressed the judges as they were awarded first place winning their heat. They now look forward to performing at the final in Birmingham on the 22nd June. Reading FC hosts Girls’ Football Festival Girls from Years 5 and 6 represented their respective schools on a Girls Football Festival at Reading FC. Marish, Priory, Lynch Hill and St Mary's took part in a round robin of fixtures on the morning organised by the Reading FC Community coaches before taking a tour of the Madjeski Stadium. The girls got to visit the home and away dressing rooms and walk out to the pitch and sit in the players and managers technical area. The day was rounded off with lunch in the players lounge!

Budding mountain climbers from Littledown

Children from Littledown School often attend sporting related activities as part of their reward system. This not only provides a positive reinforcement for good behaviour but provides opportunities to experience activities that they may not have a chance to at other times. This term pupils have taken part in rock climbing and bowling. The pupils who attended these activities excelled in developing gross motor skills and dexterity. We may have some budding mountain climbers in our midst! The children completed 9 different activities during the event competing against other schools from Slough. The activities included balancing the shuttle on their racquet to hitting the shuttle over the net. All the children had a great time and enjoyed playing badminton.

Year 5 and 6 have had the opportunity to have Badminton coaching professional badminton coaching as part of the ongoing sporting programme at Iqra. The children are learning lots of new skills which will lead them into playing matches. The children have had fun learning to play!

-Gifted and Talented Programme- Girl's football is becoming very popular on the world stage and Iqra has a lot of girls who are F.A. girls football training enjoying playing football. The school has formed a link with the local football coach at Berks & Bucks F.A and every Thursday Lewis comes in and delivers a coaching programme to our year 5 and 6 girls. The girls get a chance to show off their talent and have recently won their first match against Wexham Secondary school. Wycombe Wonderers To be the best at a sport takes a lot of hard work and dedication. Pupils who show excellence in a sport will Football Academy be helped to achieve their full potential. Baba Saar from year 6 has excelled in football and was put forward to attend a football trial with Wycombe Wonderers. Baba attended 2 training sessions and was successfully selected to play for their performance squad. The coach at the club said that Baba had a lot of talent and with hard work and discipline he could make it all the way and play for a Premiership football club

Gymnastics is an excellent way to work on the children's Gymnastics coaching fundamental skills, learning all about agility, balance and coordination in a fun environment. The school has linked up with Slough Gymnastics club and Amy, a professional coach, is teaching the children lots of new and exciting routines 9 RELAY The newsletter for the Slough School Sport Network May 2015 IQRA sports round-up (continued) Iqra entered two teams into the annual tag rugby festival Tag rugby festival held at Slough Rugby Club. The year 5+6 team got off to a flying start with a win in their first two games but narrowly got beaten in their last two games. The children played some outstanding rugby and scored some fantastic tries. The Year 3+4 team also played some lovely rugby and played well as a team. They won one match but lost the other two. All the children gained a lot of experience playing against other teams from Slough and had a fun time in the process. Tayba Yasir ( Year 4 )said: “I was so excited that I was picked to play in the tag rugby festival. We had to try and beat the other schools and we thought it would be easy but we when we started we found it really hard and kept on losing. “We tried our best and kept playing and in our last game we won. I was a little sad that we didn't get into the final but still proud of my team. It was a lovely day and I had lots of fun.” Iqra entered an A & B team into the Slough Schools Hockey Festival Sport Network Hockey festival. The children had training from two players from the women’s GB hockey team and were taught lots of exciting hockey skills which they could use in their matches. After the training the children played matches against other schools from Slough. All the children played to a high level and enjoyed their day immensely.

Iqra took part in the annual High 5 netball festival held at Langley Grammar school. Over 20 teams Netball Festival entered from schools across Slough. From the very first game the children knew that all the games will be hard as the standard was very high. The children had to rotate in their set positions and played in a different area of the court in each match. Iqra played some excellent netball and showed of their talent. We didn't quite make it into the final but all the children had lots of fun playing and competing against the other schools.

New age kurling is an adapted sport New Age Kurling Festival which allows both able and non able children to play the game. The aim of the game is to roll a stone (on wheels) onto a target area and the closest stone wins the points. Our team played really well and all the games where very close. LGS netball team win again!
