It is thick and very strong with a somewhat stiff texture, even though it Waxed Polyester Linen has a finish. It is manufactured in Northern , and has good rot resistance. This thread is manufactured by Henry Campbell & Co. of Belfast, Ireland. It is widely considered to be an Irish linen, but it does not have formal recognition. It sews very similar to filament polyester thread. It resists rot well, and it adheres very well with glue. Our Poly/linen thread is unwaxed, but it can be waxed by hand easily with our beeswax blocks making for excellent hand stitching. In some cases, it is easier on the hands than some waxed synthetic threads. It can also be machine sewn through a wax pot. with your sewing machine manufacturer or owner's manual before attempting to sew any waxed thread by machine. Uses ­ Poly/linen thread can be used for a wide variety of applications due to its strength and resiliency. Because of its older manufacturing process and its modern polyester content, it can also help to add more authentic appearances to certain vintage items from the 1940s, and up such as , leather, auto upholstery, sports equipment, saddles, military gear, western wear, luggage, bookbinding, model ship rigging, work gear, moccasins, straps, beading, and many Irish canvas and leather crafts. For modern use, poly/linen thread can provide a look of authenticity for projects needing a retro or historic look, on things such as medieval costumes and gear. The polyester blended in with the linen helps to increase strength and moisture resistance. Size Information ­ The boxes from which they came are labeled Nm. 12 "Z" Polyester/Linen Henry Campbell & Co. Ltd. Belfast, Ireland. A size 12 equates to the modern Tex size 165, which means it falls between modern commercial sizes 138 and 207, or government sizes FF and 3­cord. The "Z" means the thread is a left twist and suitable for most sewing machines in Western markets. Its average thickness is 0.0185 inches, or 0.47 millimeters. Its estimated tensile strength is 22 Lbs., or 9.98 kilograms. This thread is too thick for home sewing machines, but it will work in commercial and industrial machines. The thread comes from the manufacturer on 16 Oz. spools. Our 2 and 4 Ounce spools are wound in house. When sewn with a number 22 or 24 needle, Its appearance is more similar to a commercial size size 207 or Tex 210, or government size 3­cord, making stitching appear to be noticeable as far as even becoming an attractive focal point. Other Properties ­ Poly/linen thread will absorb water. It will also expand in water to a certain extent. Expansion in water is good because the absorbency can help to create water tight seams, preventing further moisture penetration.
