HTC NEWS 226 - 22 MEET YOUR NEW 2016/2017 HTC BOARD MEMBERS

Three new officers were elected to the HTC Executive Committee at the January club busi- ness/election dinner meeting. The newsletter editor provided those three officers a list of questions to answer that should provide some background information about who they are and their involvement in running and the HTC. We welcome Kim Holmes, Chelsea Schia- vone and Debbie Erickson to the HTC Executive Committee. They will serve as officers until the January 2018 club business/election dinner meeting. Their pictures are on the back cover of this issue along with the other six members of the Executive Committee. Their phone number and email address will be provided in each issue of the newsletter on page 4. Please feel free to contact any of the officers if you have questions or comments.

HTC NEWS 226 - 34 RRCA HALL OF FAME MEMBERS

During the RRCA National Running Awards Ceremony Banquet at its Convention on March 19 in Dallas, Texas, the RRCA will induct three new members to the Hall of Fame which began in 1971. The 2016 inductees will be Olympians and , and legendary Coach . Interestingly Shalane Flanagan’s mother Cheryl (Bridges) Flanagan was inducted into the RRCA Hall of Fame in 1988. What may be of interest to HTC members is how many of the HOF members have visited Huntsville. 33 of the HOF members have run a race in Huntsville (15-R), or were a guest speaker for an HTC race or club meeting (21-S), or were a guest here for a running related function (5-G), or live here (1-L). I should also note was a professor and coached at Troy and this editor had the honor of inducting him in the HOF. Information and pictures of the Hall of Fame members can be found on the RRCA website: http://www.rrca.org, click on “About RRCA”, then click on “RRCA History”, and then “RRCA Hall of Fame”. It is interesting reading and represents a significant historical part of road running’s past. I have had the honor of meeting 67 of the HOF members.

Compiled and Maintained by Buck Jones § CRITERIA: Criteria for a state record include the following: (1) Alabama resident (2) U.S. citizen (3) Race run in Alabama (4) Certified courses. BIRTHDATES: Anyone noting their name in the state record listings, please call or write if I show no birth date for you. CHANGES: Potential changes to this list or any future list are welcome, just call or write me at the phone-address listed below. HELP: Race Directors, Club Board Members, and Runners, help me a little and I will be able to provide you with accurate state records.

Alabama Running Data Center - Phone: 256-539-1922 C-O Buck Jones, 2920 Eastern Shore Drive, Owens Cross Roads, AL 35763

Email Address: [email protected]

P - Pending Record, birthdate/hometown required within 6 months of race date or will be dropped. a - Point to Point Course, better than State Record but not eligible for State Record. * - Non U.S. Citizen, better than the State Record but not eligible for a State Record. # - Best Time for Distance-Sex on Point to Point Course. T - Tie performances for same age.

RACE DIRECTORS: Race directors please note the following information if you have a certified race. On your race results I need individual ages, not just by age groups. Also I need the home town listed, in order to confirm the runner is an Alabama resident. Without the above I can't use the results, unless the runner is well known to me. I do need birthdates for record holders and would suggest that all race directors add a place on the entry forms. I would not expect birthdates to be added to the race results but they would be available should I or USATF Road Running Information Center need them. USATF RRIC is the national data center for long distance road-track racing, having taken over from the NRDC. I will process all Alabama race results as the state record keeper through to USATF RRIC.

NOTE: Birth dates are still required for an age record, however those dates are no longer being published.

The Huntsville Track Club reserves the right to reject ads that are judged not to be in the best interest of members, or in keeping with the image of the HTC, or that would conflict with our race sponsors, or not meet the requirements of our non-profit mailing permit. The permit limits the content of advertising to races, running products, and running services. If you have a question please check with us before the 6th of the month to be sure your ad meets these requirements.
