iPad Tips and Tricks

Battery Life Low battery life issues most likely are not due to accessing Enterprise Edition on the iPad. Apple has several suggestions and recommendations when using the iPad to help improve and conserve battery life. For further information regarding these recommendations refer to: http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipad.html

Battery life on iPad devices can last for up to 10 hours, but depends on the age of the device, and the model of the device. In addition, there are various factors that will cause the battery to run down faster than normal, a few are listed below.

• Using accessories with the iPad such as external keyboards. ••• Websites that run a lot of java script (as Enterprise Edition does). ••• Low internet connectivity. ••• Bluetooth and Wi-Fi options turned on when not in use. ••• Having multiple apps and processes open and running at the same time.

If your battery life seems to consistently run low, perform the following functions to conserve battery life.

Change Brightness 1 Tap the Settings application on the iPad Home screen. 2 Select Brightness and Wallpaper from the left sidebar. 3 Drag the brightness slider as low as you can and still be able to see the screen well.

Close Background Apps Newer versions of the OS run in true multitasking mode, meaning that many applications can run simultaneously unless they are closed out (killed). This will cause the memory to run low as well as the battery, especially on devices with lower memory capacity. To close unnecessary running background apps:

1 Double tap the home button on the front of the screen to see all apps that are currently running. 2 The running apps will appear in a window at the bottom of the screen. Scroll across the screen to see all apps. 3 To kill an app hold down the app icon in the bottom window. The icons will begin to jiggle and a red circle with a minus sign will appear on the top left of the icons. Tap the red circle on the icon to kill the desired app. (If the app has a black X instead of a red – do not tap the app, or it will be deleted. If the black X appears the app has been selected on the main screen, not the running apps window.). Repeat for all running apps that are not needed.

Turn Off Bluetooth (If Not In Use) 1 Tap the Settings application on the iPad Home screen. 2 Select General from the left sidebar. 3 Tap Bluetooth. 4 Select Off for Bluetooth.

Using Keyboard Mode To enable the keyboard to appear on the screen you must click in a text field. The keyboard will appear.

Hidden Apostrophe Key The apostrophe key is on the second screen of the keyboard. However, you can access a hidden apostrophe from the first screen of the keyboard:

1 Tap and hold the exclamation (!) key. 2 A hidden apostrophe option will appear. 3 Slide your finger up over the apostrophe to access it. The apostrophe will appear in the text field.

Type Faster with Double Spaces Instead of typing a period at the end of each sentence, double-tap the space bar. The iPad will enter a period followed by a space.

Turning on Caps Lock There may be instances in which you desire to type in all CAPS. To turn caps lock on:

1 In keyboard mode double tap (shift key) on either side of the keyboard. The key will turn blue. 2 Enter text.

External Keyboards External Keyboards can be used with the iPad. When an external keyboard is connected to the iPad, the virtual keyboard will cease to appear. The use of external keyboards and other accessories can run down the life of the battery faster than normal.

Copying and Pasting Text To copy and paste text:

1 Hold your finger down on the text you wish to copy. A window will appear as shown below. 2 Select Copy .

3 Navigate to the window you wish to paste the text to. 4 Hold your finger down on the field you wish to paste the text to. A window will appear as shown below. Enterprise Edition iPad Page 10 of 15 User’s Guide Revised 10.15.2012

5 Select Paste . iPad allows for a quick way to copy and paste an entire paragraph. Find the paragraph you want to copy, and tap on it four times. The entire paragraph will be highlighted and ready to paste.

Zooming To zoom in or out in the browser place two fingers on the screen and pinch open (move them apart) to zoom out or pinch closed (move them together) to zoom in.

Scrolling To scroll up and down within the browser screen place one finger on the screen and drag it up or down to move the screen. Due to the functionality of the iPad, scroll bars will not appear on the side of the browser screen. In addition, some screens may require a two finger scroll instead of a one finger scroll, again due to the functionality of the iPad.

Some browser windows in iPad will open a browser within the browser instead of opening a pop up window as occurs on a laptop or PC. If this occurs the following steps will need to be performed to scroll:

1 Anchor the outside browser window by placing one finger on the window. 2 Place a second finger inside the internal browser window and drag up or down to scroll. If you scroll down a long page of content, tap the title bar at the top of the screen and the iPad will automatically scroll back to the top.

Taking Screenshots To take a screenshot:

1 Hold and release the Home button (on the front of the screen) and Power button (on top of the device) simultaneously. 2 The device will make a snapshot sound when the screenshot is taken. 3 The screenshot will automatically be saved in the Photo Gallery .

Backspace iPad devices do not have a backspace key on the keyboard. Instead of backspace a back arrow will appear on the keyboard that is used in place of a backspace key.

Enterprise Edition Behavioral Differences

Enterprise Edition will appear and behave slightly different in certain areas of the product when viewed on an iPad in the default Safari browser.

List Boxes In Safari list boxes will appear as drop-down menu boxes instead of list boxes. In order to view all of the options available, the drop-down box must be tapped on before the user can see the items that are assigned to the patient. The default for which item appears on the screen is whatever option is first in the list. There is no indicator that there are multiple options available, the drop-down box will have to be tapped in order to view them. Once the box is tapped on all options will appear in the drop-down menu as shown below. Select the correct option to appear in the box.

Reports In Safari, reports will open in a new window instead of in a pop up box.

Custom Agency Documents In Safari, the client will be unable to upload pdf images to Custom Agency Documents. Any pdf images that were previously uploaded will however be able to be viewed.

Patient/Personnel Photos In Safari, the client will be unable to upload photos in Patient and Personnel files. Photos that were previously uploaded will however be able to be viewed.

Tabs Due to the screen resolution and size in the Safari browser there will be instances when due to multiple tabs on a screen they will not all be able to be in view at one time. When this occurs, blue back and forward arrows will appear at the top right of the screen. To view more tabs, click the back or forward arrow to scroll through the tabs as shown below.

Enterprise Edition iPad Page 12 of 15 User’s Guide Revised 10.15.2012

Errors Some behaviors will cause Safari to crash, or shut down. One specific instance of this is if the client is moving their fingers too fast on the screen and has multiple browser open at the same time, Safari will crash.
