Journey to Excellence Our Vision To be the Best Community Healthcare System in New

Our Mission To improve the health of the Rutland Region and surrounding communities by providing appropriate, superior, integrated, preventative, diagnostic and therapeutic health services in a caring environment through the strength of our people, technology and relationships. To Our Community…

I always know that spring is just around the The daylight is lasting longer and I saw signs of corner when it’s time for me to address you spring in our Memorial Garden – these are both through this Annual Report. This last year saw indications that it’s been a year since the last Rutland Regional Medical Center continue its Annual Report. I am always excited to let you progress toward Our Vision “to be the Best know what is happening at Rutland Regional Community Hospital and Health System in New Medical Center and to share with you our England.” Let me share with you many of the successes, along with letting you know some year’s happenings that are leading us closer to of the challenges we face. this vision. Every two years we review the direction our It’s impossible to discuss Our Vision without talking about the core of our organizational organization is going to ensure we are on the direction, which is our key customers – patients right track. We recently made small changes and providers. Our patients are the very reason to our Vision and Mission but they have big we have been serving our community for more impacts. Our Vision has been “to be the Best than one hundred years. Our relationship with Community Hospital and Health System in the physicians and providers in the area is vital to New England.” We changed this to “to be the our continued success of ensuring that we have Best Community Healthcare System in New the best services possible for our community. England”. There are two primary reasons we made these changes. The first is that since its 10- 3 bed beginning on September 6, 1896, Rutland Regional has become more than a hospital. We have expanded outside our four walls at 160 Allen Street to include the specialties of general surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, cardiology, gastroenterology, women’s healthcare, outpatient behavioral health and orthopaedics. We expect this list to continue growing as neither the physicians or Rutland Regional can survive in the long run without the other. Reimbursement changes have hit the private physician very hard and some practices cannot break even under this current environment. Rutland Regional cannot survive without a sufficient number of physician specialists. We cannot offer the necessary services to our community if there are not physicians to lead those services. Probably the most common misperception is that we have bought many practices. The physicians and their staff have simply become Rutland Regional employees and both the revenue generated as well as the expense becomes part of our financial picture. What we have tried to do in

Ordinary people with extraordinary talent lend their hand each year to bring to life events that support a variety of programs and services. For some, it’s a tribute to a loved one. For others, it’s a strong commitment to a health issue. Every donor has his or her own reasons for supporting Rutland Regional Medical Center and whatever the motivation, we are touched by their generosity. We find it especially heartwarming to witness the passion and commitment our friends put into fundraising events that hold special meaning for them. The following events were held in support of the programs and services of Rutland Regional in 2011.
