CBI files fresh case against Sterling Biotech for Rs. 5,000 crore loan default

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a fresh case against Sterling Biotech Ltd for defaulting loans worth over Rs 5,383 crore. ● The agency has booked Gujarat-based Sterling Biotech, its directors Chetan Jayantilal Sandesara, Dipti Chetan Sandesara, Rajbhushan Omprakash Dixit, Nitin Jayantilal Sandesara and Vilas Joshi, chartered accountant Hemant Hathi, former director of Andhra Bank Anup Garg and other unidentified persons. NATIONAL ● The CBI has alleged that the company had taken loans of over Rs5,000 NEWS crore from a consortium led by Andhra Bank which have turned into non- NATIONAL performing assets. NEWS ● The FIR has alleged that the total pending dues of the group companies were Rs5,383 crore as on 31 December 2016. ● The directors of the company “connived with the in-house chartered accountant and falsified material records of the company”, such as production, turnover and investments in capital assets, the FIR alleged. ● “This was allegedly done using various India-based entities and those situated abroad,” it alleged. ● The company is already under investigation for allegedly bribing tax

airports, while identification documents will not be required for minors accompanied by parents, according to a circular issued

by aviation security agency BCAS. NATIONAL ● Passengers entering an airport premises need to produce any one of the NEWS ten identity proofs listed by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) in its latest communication, which include passport, voter ID card, Aadhaar or m-Aadhaar, PAN card and driving licence.

● "In order to ensure that a bonafide passenger is travelling on a valid ticket issued in his/her name as well as to avoid any controversy/argument with the security staff, any of the following photo identity documents shall be carried in original," according to the BCAS circular issued on October 26. NATIONAL ● A passbook issued by a nationalised bank, pension card, disability photo NEWS identification and service photo ID card of central/state government, PSU, local bodies and private limited company will also be acceptable. ● Differently-abled persons will have to produce a disability photo ID or a medical certificate.

ICICI Bank profit fell down by 30%

The country's largest private sector lender ICICI Bank on Friday reported a 30 percent decline in consolidated net profit to Rs 2,071.38 crore for the September quarter due to increase in bad loans. ● The bank's net profit in July-September quarter of the last fiscal was Rs 2,979 crore. ● Its total income during the September quarter also slipped to Rs 30,191 NATIONAL crore, as against Rs 32,435 crore in the year-ago period, ICICI Bank said NEWS in a statement. ● On standalone basis, net profit declined by 34 percent to Rs 2,058 crore for the second quarter as compared to Rs 3,102 crore in the same period of the previous fiscal. ● Its total standalone income came down to Rs 18,763 crore compared with Rs 22,759 crore on standalone basis in the same quarter of 2016-17. ● However, net interest income rose by 9 percent to Rs 5,709 crore compared to Rs 5,253 crore in the second quarter of last financial year. ● ICICI Bank's gross non-performing assets (NPAs) or bad loans jumped to 7.87 percent as against 6.12 percent in the year-ago period.

Telangana on Saturday as the state working president and MLA, A Revanth Reddy, quit the party saying the recent happenings in the state unit pained him. ● Revanth, who flew down to Vijayawada for a meeting with TDP supremo and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, is understood to have handed over his resignation letter to Naidu's private secretary and NATIONAL immediately left for Hyderabad. NEWS ● When asked about it, Chandrababu Naidu told reporters that he has not received Revanth resignation letter. ● Revanth was arrested in the "cash-for-vote" case after he was caught on camera allegedly offering money to a nominated MLA for his vote in the MLC election in 2015. ● For the past few days, there has been a turmoil in Telangana TDP with reports claiming that Revanth, who is an MLA from in Mahbubnagar district, met Rahul Gandhi and was about to join the Congress. Revanth also caused a stir by accusing some leaders of Andhra Pradesh TDP, including two ministers, of securing huge financial contracts from the TRS government in Telangana.

Centre plans to open AYUSH hospitals in every district in 10 years: Naik The Centre is working on a plan to open AYUSH hospitals in every district of the country in the next 10 years, Union Minister Shripad Naik said on Saturday. ● "Under AYUSH Mission, the work of setting up a 50 bedded hospital in each district of the country in next 10 years has begun," Naik, the Union Minister of State for Ayush, said. ● He said that his ministry has cleared 66 proposals from different states and sanctioned funds for opening AYUSH hospitals. NATIONAL ● Besides, the minister said, work of constructing 992 yoga wellness NATIONALNEWS centres has begun. NATIONALNEWS ● Naik said under AYUSH Mission, Rs 1,117.34 crore has been given to NEWS states and union territories.
