Firmfit Contract Flooring Maintenance Guide Cleaning FIRMFIT CONTRACT FLOORING MAINTENANCE GUIDE CLEANING • After installation, your floor may need a thorough cleaning. Do not use any additional protective products and follow the simple steps below. • Clean your floor regularly. • Start by removing all dirt and dust with a so broom or a vacuum cleaner with the correct hard surface attachment – never a rotating brush, floor scrubbers, jet mops, buffers or similar products. • Then, clean with water and a neutral and appropriate cleaning agent. Do not use aggressive cleaning products, soap, abrasive cleaners or cleaning agents that contain wax or oil. We recommend using a well-rung wet mop or a cloth. • The use of residential steam mops on this product is allowed. Use at lowest power with a suitable so pad, and do not hold a steam mop on one spot for an extended period of time (longer than 5 minutes). Refer to the steam mop’s manufacturer instructions for proper usage. • After washing allow your floor the time to dry. STAINS • After washing allow your floor the time to dry. • Remove stains as soon as possible, with a well-wrung, slightly damp cloth. Worn-in stains are difficult to remove. • For chocolate, grease, juice and wine stains, use lukewarm water and a non-abrasive cleaner. • Nail polish, tar, markers, crayon, lipstick, ink and cigarette burns can be removed using nail polish remover or denatured alcohol. • For candle wax and chewing gum, scrape carefully with a blunt plastic scraper. • Pet stains (including urine, feces and vomit from domestic cats or dogs) need to be cleaned within 24 hours. PROTECTING • Avoid bringing dirt, sand, grit and substances such as oil or asphalt indoors by placing non rubber-backed carpets and doormats at all entrances. • Do not use rubber-backed mats as long-lasting contact with the rubber can cause permanent stains. • Do not allow cigarettes, matches or other very hot items to get in contact with the floor as this may cause permanent damage. • Do not drag or slide heavy objects across the floor. When moving appliances or heavy furniture it is always wise to lay a plywood panel, or similar, on your floor and “walk” the item across it. This protects your floor from scuffing, gouging and tears. • Apply appropriate protection to the legs of the furniture. Apply freely rotating, non-rubber wheels to chairs with castors and/or use protective matting. • Please bear in mind that pets with sharp nails can leave deep scratches on the floor. • Place beige, felt floor protectors under chair and table legs; do not use coloured floor protectors. Prolonged contact with rubber can cause permanent stains. FLOORING REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS A damaged board in the middle of the room doesn’t require disassembling the whole floor. You can fix it by cutting that single damaged board out and replacing it with a new one. Things you’ll need: straightedge, cutting blade for so surfaces, rotary saw, screwdriver, utility blade, premium vinyl adhesive, weights. Instructions: • Mark damaged board 1-1/2″ (3.81 cm) from ends and sides. Drill 3/16″ (4.76 mm) holes in corners and at relief cuts. • Set saw depth to board thickness. Cut along lines and remove center section. Make relief cuts using drilled holes as visible stop. • Carefully life and pull center length cut first, then work into corners to remove end pieces last. • Using utility knife, prepare replacement board by removing bottom of groove on end and side (see drawing below). • Apply a thin bead of glue to the tongues of the remaining planks on the floor surrounding the plank being replaced. Please use a premium vinyl adhesive. • Hold the board at a 45-degree angle. Slip the tongue that is still present into the groove at one end of the hole. Gently lower the board into place in the hole. Be sure not to get any excess glue on the surface of the planks. If some glue does get on surface, wipe it off and clean immediately following glue manufacturer’s instructions. • Weigh the board down with a few heavy books or other objects. Allow the glue to dry for at least 48 hours. www.casabellafloors.com ScubaSeal Floor Care Frequently moved furniture should be equipped with felt pads to avoid scratching the floor. Heavy furniture and appliances should be equipped with non-staining large surface floor protectors. Furniture with castors or wheels must be easy swiveling, large surface non-staining and suitable for resilient floors. Do not use ball type castors as they can damage the floors. Avoid exposure to long periods of direct sunlight. Close blinds or drapes during peak sunlight hours. Use walk off mats at entrances to prevent dirt and grit from being tracked on to the floor. Sweep or vacuum the floor regularly to remove loose dirt. Avoid using a vacuum with a beater bar. Clean up spills immediately. Damp mop as needed using clean water and a diluted floor cleaner. Do not use harsh cleaners or chemicals on the floor. We recommend using a pH neutral vinyl floor cleaner as required. Examples of acceptable cleaners are Bona Stone, Tile, and Laminate Cleaner and ZEP. We do not warrant any of the cleaning agents or conditions associated with them as the application is beyond our control. Always rinse the floor with clean water and allow to dry as the floor may be slippery when wet. Air movers or fans will speed up drying time. Never saturate your floor. Do not buff, wax, or use cleaning products that contain surfactants. Dish lotions, laundry detergents, Murphy Oil Soap cleaners should never be used to maintain your floor. Casabella Floors • www.casabellafloors.com • Phone: (847) 979-2500 - Fax: (847) 364-9207 - Rev. 01/29/2019 Maintenance Guide The type or frequency of traffic on your Plank will determine the frequency of maintenance needed. The color of the floor will have some bearing on how much care may be necessary. Regular adherence to an effective maintenance program should include: Thorough dirt and grit regulation, Prompt removal of spills and stains, Protection of the floor surface The most effective part of any floor maintenance program is the simplest: sweep, dust mop or vacuum DAILY, or more frequently if needed. COMPLETION OF THE INSTALLATION • Lightly damp mop with a Casabella’s Neutral Cleaner or Casabella’s No Rinse Cleaner. Remove any scuffs and excessive soil by careful scrubbing. Certain types of rubber heel marks may be removed by rubbing with a cloth dampened with Casabella’s Adhesive / Scuff Remover. • Although Acrylix has a tremendous PSI load rating, it is always recommended for any flooring product that proper precautions be taken prevent possible indentations and scratches. It is always our recommendation to provide glass, plastic or other non-staining cups with flat under surfaces not less than 2” in width for the legs of heavy furniture or appliances. • Equip swiveled-type office chairs and other rolling furniture with broad surface non-staining casters at least 2” in diameter. Remove small diameter buttons from the legs of straight chairs and replace with metal glides that have bearing surfaces not less than 1” in diameter. • Protect your floor against burns. Burns from the glowing embers, the end of a cigarette, matches, or other extremely hot items can damage Acrylx floors. ROUTINE COMMERCIAL MAINTENANCE • Acrylx Plank will perform commercially provided a sound maintenance program is followed. Light daily sweeping, dust mopping or vacuuming will prevent dirt and grit particles from being ground into the surface of the plank. • Non-rubber, non-staining walk off mats should be used to control the amount of dirt and grit reaching the floor. The mats should be as wide as the doorway and thick enough to trap dirt and should be cleaned on a regular basis. • Frequent light mopping will prevent the floor from becoming heavily soiled and will remove most spills and stains. The amount and type of traffic will dictate the frequency of washing. Wash the floor by damp mopping with Casabella’s Commercial Cleaner diluted with warm water. If the floor receives hard use and becomes extremely dirty, as in heavily commercial installations, an occasional scrubbing may be necessary. This can be accomplished by using a low speed buffer 300 RPM or less with a redscrubbing–type (polyester or nylon) pad. Spray the floor with Casabella’s Commercial Cleaner and work the solution over the floor using the buffer and the scrubbing pad. Once this is accomplished, remove the dirty residue by damp mopping with clear water or with a wet vacuum. STAIN REMOVAL To remove stubborn spots or stains from tiles/planks, always begin with mild cleaners, such as Casabella’s Neutral Cleaner or Casabella’s No Rinse Cleaner. If this fails to remove stain, use www.casabellafloors.com Mineral Spirits sparingly and be sure to do a test area prior to using on entire floor. Do not use harsh solvents, such as Acetone, or lacquer thinner, as these type products can permanently soften and damage the surface. For extreme staining, (paints, permanent markers, dyes) try applying fingernail polish remover containing Acetone (not straight Acetone) applied to soft cloth and rubbing. Any damage resulting from use of pure solvents IS NOT covered by the warranty. Always test stronger cleaning agents on sample pieces or in unnoticeable areas first before attempting on affected areas. SCUFFING AND SCRATCHING Although Acrylx planks are resistant to scuffing and scratching, surface damage can occur with hard enough use, or if floor is improperly maintained. If damage occurs, try using Casabella’s Scratch Remover spray bottle or hand buffing the spot with 0000 steel wool, using a solution of mineral spirits.
