BEGINNING OF THE SERVICES

City Tour: Visit of the traditional market of San Camilo, a unique experience where you can enjoy the colours and variety of Andean products (food, clothing, and elements from mystical religious ceremonies etc.). Some of the purchased products can be used to prepare the next meals.  San Ignacio capillary: It’s the most curious and unique jewel of the art from Arequipa. The former sacristy of the Company stimulates the interest of the visitors. This place has a famous polychrome dome of the XVII century with full of light colors, and it is said to have been made with bright dyes and animal fat that is why they have stand the test of time. The anonymous author painted tropical motifs, plants and of those places. In the spandrels are the paintings of the 4 Evangelists with their symbols, made in vivid colors. At the bottom of the dome, are the nine Founders and Martyrs each one shows is own heart. The Storta vision paint is on the main headwall. Two paintings of Bitti: The flogging and the Resurrection complete the atmosphere. We can also see the small base that supports the image of the Virgin of Copacabana, which is a wonderful piece of carving.  Church of the Company: It’s a temple erected by the Society of Jesus, and one of the most prominent examples of the architecture of mixed race. The Architect Gaspar Baez built the original church in 1578. The actual church, finished in 1667, consists of a nave flanked by chapels. As for other buildings in Arequipa, the material used for its construction came from the quarries of the volcano El . The physical properties of this molten stone make it very easy to work but difficult to sculpt in depth because of its porous texture. This led to the development of a type of decoration, as in the case of the Jesuit church, which covers the rest of the façade to form a grand tapestry of stone. The main facade of the church was rebuilt in 1698 after an earthquake. The most interesting part of this work is the wide variety of decorative elements that cover it entirely, and motivated by a kind of horror vacui (abhors a vacuum).

. Visit the Monastery of Santa Catalina. This is the most important colonial architectonic monument of Arequipa. It was built to lodge the daughters of the distinguished families in the city. The monastery was inaugurated in 1580, and it was closed to the public until 1970. It occupies an approximated area of twenty thousand square meters.

. The Cathedral: was built in neoclassical style, and is considered the only colonial architecture work of its kind in the world. The cathedral is one of the 70 churches in the world that is authorized to unfold the standard of the Vatican. It was built on 1656 over a surface of 20, 0000 square meters, with sillar (white volcanic stone) and brick vaults. It was destroyed by a fire in 1844 and two earthquakes that shook the city. It was rebuilt at the end of XIX century
